Past few days, our centres had been handling a lot of cases that include injury after playing Pickleball. Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, and is played on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net. It can be played by two (singles) or four players (doubles). Players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball over the net.
As it is experiencing a surge in popularity, particularly in Malaysia, Yes, pickleball injuries can and do happen. Common injuries include ankle sprains, knee injuries (like sprains and meniscus tears), shoulder tendonitis, elbow epicondylitis (tennis elbow), wrist sprains/strains, and lower back pain. These injuries often arise from the quick lateral movements, sudden stops, and repetitive motions involved in the sport.
