Public Notice: Cancer Registry Follow-Up Process

The Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) is currently finalising the national Cancer Registry data for the period 2020โ€“2024. This important work will enable us to present updated information on cancer incidence in Namibia, helping guide policy, prevention efforts, and national planning.

As part of this process, our team will begin a confidential follow-up programme over the next three weeks. This process may include telephonic conversations with patients or their families whose cases form part of the Cancer Registry.

We would like to reassure the public that:
* All conversations and information remain strictly confidential.
* No personal or private information will be shared publicly.
* The purpose of the follow-up is solely to complete and verify registry records, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of national cancer statistics.

At the Cancer Association of Namibia, we recognise that speaking about a cancer journey, or the loss of a loved one, can evoke powerful memories and emotions. We approach these conversations with deep respect, compassion, and professionalism.

The purpose of this work goes beyond statistics. By strengthening the national cancer dataset, we aim to capture experiences, identify challenges within the health system, and highlight opportunities for improvement. These insights will help inform discussions with the Ministry of Health and Social Services-Namibia and other stakeholders to support the development and strengthening of Namibiaโ€™s National Cancer Control Plan.

Our shared goal is to build a clearer picture of cancer in Namibia and contribute to a future of improved prevention, earlier diagnosis, better treatment access, and stronger support systems for all Namibians affected by cancer.

We thank patients and families in advance for their trust, openness, and willingness to contribute to this important national effort.

The Namibian Oncology Centre
Paramount Healthcare Centre
Palliative Care Namibia
CAN Erongo Centre
CAN Hardap Centre

Notes:
The Namibian National Cancer Registry (NNCR), established and managed by the Cancer Association of Namibia (WO30) since 1995, is a population-based, national registry tracking cancer diagnoses to improve prevention, control, and treatment. It covers all Namibian citizens, recording data on cancer incidence, trends, and mortality to inform health policies.

Key Details About the NNCR:
* Purpose: To monitor cancer incidence, predict future patterns, and evaluate prevention/treatment programs in Namibia.
* Data Collection: Captures comprehensive data on cancers diagnosed in Namibian residents.
* Impact: Approximately 4,100 new cases are reported annually.
* Reports: Publishes 5-year reports (e.g., 2010-2014) and 3-year, interim, or annual reports to the Ministry of Health.
* International Recognition: Included in the Global Cancer Atlas, GLOBOCAN and supported by the African Cancer Registry Network (AFCRN).

How to Contact the Registry:
Patients diagnosed with cancer are encouraged to ensure their data is captured by submitting their information, including name, ID, and diagnosis, to canreg@can.org.na. The registry is located at the Cancer Association of Namibia's head office in Windhoek.

It is beautiful when we can honour and give the flowers of gratitude to them, while our elders who started all of what we are entrusted with, can still enjoy the fruits of their labour.

Cancer Association of Namibia longest serving CEO. 22 years. Mr Kurt Johannesson.

So, we named House Zietsman in hour of Dr Annelle Zietsman also.

Together we CAN impact lives.
