Good Day Team

As we all know from the 13th to 26th October 2025 we are having a visitor (Ms. Taylor) from the Denver Fencing Foundation, USA.
Ms. Taylor is a highly respected athlete, coach, and Program Manager at the Denver Fencing
Foundation (USA), and a passionate advocate for para fencing development worldwide.
During her visit, she will:
• Provide technical training and mentorship to Namibian para fencing athletes.
• Share international best practices on adaptive fencing techniques and team-building
approaches.
• Facilitate capacity-building workshops for local coaches.
• Donate second-hand para fencing and adaptive equipment valued at approximately USD
1,500, which will greatly enhance the readiness of Namibian athletes for international
competitions.

Please take this as an opportunity for you to learn as much as you can from her.

Parafencing is a new sport in Namibia and Africa at large, making it the best sport to grow in.

On September 27, 2025, we came together for a powerful conversation on Sexuality Education.

We explored key themes related to relationships and intimacy for people with disabilities, including what intimacy means, when it may begin in a relationship, and how it’s experienced differently by each individual.

Some of the important takeaways:
- Start by loving yourself: confidence and self-awareness are foundational.
- Practice open communication with your partner.
- Be clear about boundaries, and take action when needed.
- Reflect on what intimacy looks like for you: what works, what doesn’t, and what feels safe and affirming.

This was a space for honest dialogue, shared learning, and deep reflection. Thank you to everyone who contributed with openness and care. 👌🏾♿💃♥️

As our financial partnership with the National Disability Council of Namibia (NDCN) concludes in August 2025, the Association of Wheelchair Users (AWCU) wishes to express heartfelt thanks for the steadfast support extended to Organisations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs).

Through NDCN’s assistance, AWCU has been able to grow our impact, amplify advocacy efforts, and champion the rights of wheelchair users with renewed purpose. This collaboration empowered us to pursue inclusion, dignity, and accessibility, not just as ideals, but as lived realities.

AWCU could not have made it without NDCN. Your belief in our mission and commitment to enabling change has left a legacy of transformation.

Thank you, NDCN, for walking alongside us.

Back Ground

Namibia Association of Wheelchair Users (NAWCU) is an organisation of people with disabilities (OPD), specifically wheelchair users and stakeholders who initiated the formation of a group to discuss common issues, since January 2016. NAWCU evolved as a result of the annual “Workshop 4 Wheels” ran by Windhoek Central Hospital Occupational Therapy Department that took place from 2012 to 2015. Currently, the organisation has approximately 100 members from Khomas Region. Other members are spread in other towns like Gobabis, Okahandja and the coast. Our desire is to be eventually represented across Namibia.
