FAQ
How many treatments do I need?

It all depends on your condition and on the results of the first colonic. If a condition has been building up for years, it is unlikely that it will disappear completely after 45 minutes of cleansing.
Therefor I strongly recommend a second and sometimes 3rd session within a short period of time. (See special package rates.)
If you go on a maintenance programme between treatments, and you adopt dietary and lifestyle modifications the periods between colonics will be longer.

Colon Cleansing and You
As gross as it sounds, there's nothing quite so satisfying as a large, healthy bowel movement. It sounds vulgar, but it's true. If you don't have them regularly, or if your stools are small, hard, odd coloured, or difficult to pass, there's something wrong with your colon and probably your health. Constipation, diarrhoea, bloating, gas, a large belly and bad breath are all signs that your colon may be in distress.
The colon, also known as the large intestine, is often compared to a sewer because that's where most of our bodily waste goes.
If the waste sits in there for too long without being expelled, it may remove too much moisture and cause hard, difficult to pass stools, which is a sign of constipation.
What's the big deal? That sounds pretty harmless, doesn't it? So, what if your colon is sluggish or you're constipated occasionally. The problem is, it can lead to much more serious health problems.
Consider the oft repeated statement, "Death begins in the colon." That sounds pretty gloomy, but is it true? Think about it. No matter how much you chew your food or even what you eat, some of it will make its way, undigested, to your colon. Some foods are worse than others, but if your colon isn't working properly, and the "transit time" is too long, that food will ferment and putrefy, providing the opportunity for toxic substances to leech back into your bloodstream. Add to that the chemical pollutants found in our food and water; hormones, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, chlorine, arsenic, mercury, and many others too numerous to mention, it's no wonder that our population has so many health problems and colon-related illnesses like cancer, irritable bowel syndrome, Crohn's, colitis, diverticulitis, etc. It becomes clear then, that a well-functioning colon is essential for a healthy body.
A healthy colon starts with a healthy lifestyle. That includes exercise; a mostly plant-based, whole-foods diet; lots of water, plenty of sleep and stress relief. But if you've been neglecting these areas, it may take a while to get your colon working properly. You may want to consider colon cleansing as a first step in getting it back on the road to recovery. The road to large, healthy bowel movements.

Constipation? Solutions You May Not Know About
By Brenda Watson

Constipation, whether a short-term experience or a long-term condition, is a problem that needs to be addressed so that you can experience vibrant health. If you have had chronic constipation, I am going to suggest several solutions—other than just add more fibre or drink plenty of water—that you may not have considered. If your constipation is infrequent (maybe due to travel or an interrupted schedule) some of these suggestions will also help you. Before we start, please make sure you have been checked by a doctor to rule out an underlying problem that needs medical attention.

The first solution I would consider is a holistic treatment called colon hydrotherapy (a.k.a. colonic). Hydrotherapy means water therapy. Colon hydrotherapy is the cleaning of the colon with water. For most people an e***a comes to mind, which can be done at home.

Colon hydrotherapy, in contrast, is administered by a colon therapist in a clinical setting and is a more thorough process than an e***a. Colon hydrotherapy is a safe, effective method of removing waste from the large intestine without the use of drugs. By introducing filtered and temperature-regulated water into the colon, the waste is softened and loosened, resulting in elimination through natural peristalsis (muscle contraction). This process is repeated a few times during a session.

If a person is constipated then cleaning the colon is an important first step. I professionally administered colonics on many clients and worked with medical doctors and their patients. I have also experienced colon hydrotherapy personally. Colon hydrotherapy would also be an option for cleaning the colon before colonoscopy
I have found colon hydrotherapy to be particularly helpful in people with chronic constipation. It helps to retrain the bowel to use peristalsis to propel food through the colon.

For the many people who are deficient in magnesium (most of whom do not even know it), adding more magnesium to the diet in the form of a supplement can help with constipation. The amount of magnesium in our foods has been declining for the last 60 years due to high-yield farming practices and synthetic fertilizers that can dilute the concentration of nutrients in the soil.

In addition, certain medications can further deplete the body of magnesium. Among these are proton pump inhibitors for acid reflux and blood pressure medication. Supplementation with magnesium would be a first choice if you have had long-term constipation.

B vitamin supplementation is also must for people with constipation because these vitamins nourish the nervous system, which triggers the muscles to contract as needed for elimination. In today’s world, B vitamins can be depleted for a number of reasons, stress being a big one. Find a good multi-B vitamin to take daily.

A high-potency multistrain probiotic is also important for people who are constipated. Low levels of good bacteria in the colon, like Bifidobacteria (which are the main friendly bacteria in the colon), alter the colon’s pH level, which can lead to constipation. Look for at least 50 billion cultures in one capsule with about 10 to 24 different strains of Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria strains.

Hopefully some of the above options will appeal to you. I have found all of the above to be of use in helping people solve their issue of constipation. These options are a good place to start.

Constipated? Why Doesn’t Your Colon Work?
By Brenda Watson

I’ll bet that if you have been experiencing constipation on a regular basis and have looked for solutions, you’ve heard a million times that you should drink more water and eat more fibre. While that is good advice and works for many people, there are just as many who remain constipated after following this advice because their constipation is caused by something else.
Let’s look further at this condition and see what some of the underlying issues could be aside from dehydration and lack of dietary fibre.

Magnesium Deficiency

Magnesium is a mineral that is not stored in our body and must be replenished daily by diet or supplementation, yet many people do not get enough magnesium and don’t even know it. Magnesium is responsible for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body according to the National Institutes of Health. That means that by the time food reaches the colon, there is no magnesium left. Magnesium is needed in the colon to help soften the stool by retaining water in the colon. This makes stool easier to pass and improves bowel regularity. For many people, a daily magnesium supplement works wonders for constipation.

Vitamin B Deficiency

B vitamins help to induce peristalsis, the wave-like contraction of the digestive tract that propels food through the colon. Some people experience slowed peristalsis due to a lack of B vitamins, which trigger the nervous system to produce effective bowel contractions and muscle tone. B vitamin deficiencies affect many people due to their inability to absorb this nutrient from the food they eat or due to a lack of B vitamins from their diet.

Depression

Depression is another important underlying reason for constipation. We now know from scientific studies on the human microbiome that the gut and the brain are closely connected. The question is: what comes first the chicken or the egg? Many people who suffer from depression have constipation and vice versa. The bacterial balance of the gut plays an important role in both conditions.

Food Sensitivities

Food sensitivities to gluten, dairy, and other foods can certainly make a person constipated. This process develops quietly in most people over a long period of time. Many people tolerate foods early in life, but as they age food sensitivities will begin to show up as many different chronic health symptoms and conditions, constipation being one of them.

Elimination Position

Your body’s position during elimination is so important. In Western civilized cultures we sit on a standard toilet, but in most indigenous cultures they squat. (By the way, the incidence of digestive conditions such as colon cancer, haemorrhoids, diverticulosis, IBD, and IBS in these cultures is very low). While it may sound primitive, the squatting position places pressure on the lower abdomen, which helps to facilitate a bowel movement. Fortunately, you can purchase a “p**p stool” to use with your toilet, which elevates your feet to mimic the squatting position. This can make a big difference on your bowel elimination.

Thyroid Function

Lastly, the thyroid plays a big role in constipation, especially hypothyroidism, or low thyroid function. If the body were a car, the thyroid would be considered the spark plug. If the thyroid is sluggish, the colon will be sluggish. If you have ruled out all the above factors, please get your thyroid function checked. I recommend that you see an integrative or functional medicine doctor who can determine whether you have subclinical hypothyroidism, something that many conventional doctors miss.

When the colon is slow, waste is not properly eliminated from the body. As a consequence, prolonged bacterial fermentation of retained waste produces harmful or poisonous chemicals that can be absorbed into the blood stream, triggering a host of chronic symptoms and health conditions.

The bottom line: your p**p should come out of you like a child sliding down a water slide—a slight push and out it goes.

Constipated? Understand How Your Colon Works.
By Brenda Watson

Before I discuss some of the solutions for constipation, it’s important that you understand how the colon works and what is considered healthy bowel elimination. Then, I will discuss some of the causes, and finally, offer some simple solutions.

After working with so many constipated people over the years, I have found that most do not know what healthy elimination is, or what it feels like. To witness the relief and happiness of people who finally achieve true bowel regularity after having lived their entire life constipated is amazing. Once they finally realize what regular bowel elimination feels like, they understand how bloated and heavy they were, and often, how much clearer their thinking is.

I had constipation until I was in my 30’s and never knew it. I thought I was normal, as do most people with infrequent bowel movements. I felt terrible with many health problems but never associated it with the amount and frequency of my colon elimination. I still experience constipation when I travel, so I take a colon cleanse as soon as I miss my daily elimination. It works like a charm.

It is very important to understand how the colon works so we can understand what happens when it is not working.

Let’s look at the anatomy of the colon. It is about 1,5m in length on average. The colon is divided into 3 sections: ascending (right side of body), transverse (connects right to left across the abdomen) and descending (left side).

Food travels from the small intestine in liquid form and enters your ascending colon. It travels up the ascending and across the transverse through contractions called peristalsis. As it travels, liquid is extracted into the bloodstream carrying water and nutrients. As stool reaches the descending colon (left side), it should be in a semi-solid state, gradually becoming firmer as the contractions move it forward.

The reason you should know all this is because your stool becomes harder the longer it stays in your colon. Ideally, food entering your mouth should leave the body within 24 to 30 hours. You can test this by eating something like corn or beets. Take a peek at your stool after you have eaten beets or corn. You will be able to tell how long the food took to pass through. And if the idea of looking at your stool is not appealing, please know that it’s one of the most important things you can do for your health—get used to it!

As the colon continues to remove moisture, stool becomes harder and harder the longer it stays in the body. And because stool contains many toxins, the longer it sits in the colon, the more toxins will enter your bloodstream, which can trigger health issues. This is why it’s so important to have daily elimination.

A good bowel movement should be soft but solid. It should not hurt when exiting your colon. If you can get to that point on a daily basis, you will be feeling great.

In my next post we will look at possible reasons why our colons don't work like they should.

Detox Strategies to Greet 2025
(Hint: It's Not About Diet)

Counting calories is so 1998 and is probably as helpful as leeching: an old school tool for healing that may be useful for a rare few in exceptional circumstances. But for most of us, the new year brings a fervor of "I'll do better and eat less" mania, which hasn't helped 99% of us feel, look, or behave any better.

As we welcome 2025, forget the calories and invite in more pleasure, and less crazy making weighing and counting. It's time to put away the scales and calculators and start listening to what our bodies are really asking for: real rest, real fun, and real food. Trust me. Join me in welcoming in true healing, real nourishment, and balanced energy for the new year:

1. Play more, work less.
If working out at the gym stresses you, and you don't go anyway, then just stop. You'll get more benefit and enjoy your life a lot more if you move in ways that are fun for you. Stress puts you in the metabolic state to keep weight on, while playful fun energizes you while you sweat out toxins. Go play frisbee. Take up archery. Take your mates for a hike and picnic. Dance. Movement that is fun and laugh-inducing is good for you. You'll do it more often, and it will release the beneficial, metabolism-balancing neurochemicals of pleasure, including dopamine, oxytocin, and endorphins. Get out and have fun — you'll find your body and hormones responding!

2. Sleep.
Sleep is the foundation upon which your entire life is either built sturdily or crumbles and falls apart. Logging 7-9 hours of quality sleep, every night, is necessary for your body to balance hormones, which affect your mood, metabolism and insulin sensitivity. Your brain also disposes of waste, essentially detoxing and clearing out unnecessary neurochemicals, while you sleep. The " glymphatic" system clears away toxins or waste products that could be responsible for brain diseases, including Alzheimer's.

3. Watch your thoughts.
40% of our thoughts are habit. We think the same things over and over again, and most of them, especially when it comes to our bodies, our abilities, and ourselves are not nice. It's normal — However, this constant focus on the negative can put us into a stress state, keeps you going back for comfort foods to relieve some of the stress, and don't make you feel worthy of the amazing, energized, healthy life that's waiting for you when you are kind to yourself. In short: you can't kick yourself into a happy relationship with your body.

4. Go on a media detox.
What you see impacts your health, confidence, and cravings more than you may know. From magazine covers that simultaneously show sized 00 models promoting the latest fad diet next to chocolate cake recipes, to "fitspirational" Facebook and Instagram feeds featuring perfectly toned professional athletes that throw us immediately into "compare and despair" mode, our eyes and brains are assaulted with images of how we should look tens of thousands of times a year. Turn off the river of self-hate-inducing images by going on a 7-day media detox. Turn off the commercial TV, talk radio programs, celebrity magazines, and anyone on social media who makes you feel bad about yourself, even for a moment. Turn it all off. This will help you start listening to your own body and feeling better about how you actually look and feel, rather than comparing yourself to someone who has probably been airbrushed or surgically altered to begin with.

5. Remove the "Toxic Five."
I don't believe counting calories does anything to detox or heal your body, nor has it helped control the obesity epidemic. Because calories don't matter. What does matter is removing foods to which you are intolerant of or sensitive to. There are six common foods that most people suffering from weight-loss resistance, hormonal imbalance, or mood imbalances are sensitive to: gluten, dairy, soy, corn or maize, sugar (including alcohol and artificial sweeteners). Removing these six foods for at least two weeks will allow your hormones to balance, leading to easy, natural weight loss and balanced moods and energy. These foods are also implicated in the plague of leaky gut and digestive disorders seen now by doctors around the world. Avoid these foods for two weeks, and then reintroduce them, one at a time for 4 days, to help you understand how each foods affects your energy, digestion, skin, and mood.

6. Chew.
Mom was right: chew your food! Most digestion of carbohydrates happens in the mouth with mechanical chewing and the enzymes in your saliva. If you swallow half-chewed food, your stomach won't break it down much more, causing bloating, gas, and bacterial overgrowth. I recommend that you chew each bite of food until it is mostly liquid. This allows for better digestion, metabolism, and elimination.

Let me add a 7th strategy

Recent comment from a happy client.
So glad she could feel the benefits of the treatment đŸ’©

Good evening Heidrun,

Thank you very much for the information and also for the colon therapy. I do not remember when last I felt so light and just happy. I slept like a baby and today I went to the loo twice without assistance of any laxatives. I also drank about 2L of water today and will work very hard to keep it up. I really love how I feel. When I woke up this morning, both my kids noticed that my tummy is small and looks flat. I even wore a shirt that I last wore in 2022.

Thank you very very very very very much.
