Primary Immunodeficiency Namibia

Primary Immunodeficiency Namibia Your immune system helps your body fight infections. People with primary immunodeficiency (PI) have an immune system that does not work correctly.

Which means that people with PI are more likely to become very sick from infections.

Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Week is a global campaign held each November to raise awareness about the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. AMR happens when germs like bacteria and viruses stop responding to medicines, making infections harder to treat.

The week encourages responsible use of antimicrobials, better infection prevention, and global cooperation to protect the effectiveness of lifesaving medicines for the future.

As a patient advocate for Primary Immunodeficiencies and a mother who's son daily diet was antibiotics (to his disadvantage) over time, I will be presenting at the Youth Symposium this Thursday at the Hage Geingob Campus - Medical School 👆

What an incredible great opportunity to raise awareness for Primary Immunodeficiencies (PID'S) at the recent Namibia Health Exhibition 2025.

Something very close to my heart is none other then PID'S, and the reliance of Antibiotic use to keep infections under control while treating other symptoms.

Let's continue to spread awareness about the fact that there are more than 400 different types of PI 's globally.

🧬 IPOPI is pleased to welcome the positive opinion issued by the Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). The CHMP has recommended granting EU marketing authorisation for Waskyra™, a groundbreaking ex vivo gene therapy for Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome (WAS), a rare and life-threatening primary immunodeficiency.

“This marks a significant milestone for gene therapy in the European Union, offering new hope for patients with Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome,” said Johan Prevot, IPOPI Executive Director and Board Member of the AGORA Foundation.

“This positive opinion will not only increase access to life-saving therapies for those affected by WAS but could also pave the way for the development of more innovative treatments for other primary immunodeficiencies and rare disorders,” added Martine Pergent, IPOPI President.

📢 A promising step forward for the PID community!

🌍 IPOPI NMO Webchat – “Health Technology Assessment”

Today, we brought together patient leaders from 15 countries around the world to explore the importance of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) for Primary Immunodeficiency (PID) patient leaders, understanding HTA is essential — it directly impacts access to diagnosis and treatments, and ensuring the patient voice is heard is vital so that real patient experiences and needs are reflected in decisions.

✨ Highlights included:
🔹 Otilia Stanga – welcome and moderation
🔹 Leire Solís – introduction to HTA and key insights
🔹 “Inspire & Connect” breakout sessions to exchange experiences and strategies
🔹 Updates on upcoming Global Campaigns relevant to the PID community

A big thank you to all NMO representatives for joining this space of learning and collaboration — we look forward to seeing you again in December! 💙
