Namibia Institute of Pathology Limited

Namibia Institute of Pathology Limited NIP is the largest diagnostic pathology service provider in Namibia. NIP is a significant contributor to the socio-economic development agenda in Namibia.

Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) Limited was established by an Act of Parliament (Namibia Institute of Pathology Act, 1999 (Act 15 of 1999) and registered as a public limited liability company under the Companies Act, with the State as the sole shareholder). It handles all public health sector pathology testing and provides an extensive array of disease monitoring services. It provides job opportunities to over 450 employees and also contributes substantially to the fiscus through direct and indirect tax payments. The company prides itself in providing medical laboratory services which reach far beyond servicing Namibia’s public healthcare needs, but also involves the establishment of an organisation that can effectively compete with private pathology providers, offering high quality, accessible and value-for-money services beyond Namibia’s borders. NIP has strong strategic alliances within the health-care industry enabling the company to align itself with best global practices. Since the inception of the company, it has grown to over 40 medical laboratories with a staff complement of over 450 employees headed by the Chief Executive Officer. Various stakeholders have provided contributions which are important in executing the plan over the next five years. The five-year strategic plan is two-fold:
1. To address the dynamic environment within which we operate with all stakeholders; and
2. To improve on areas which presented challenges in the past. The strategic plan has been outlined with short and long term strategic objectives and we are confident that this plan will enable us to deliver effectively and efficiently through the next five years, enabling us to attain far greater accomplishments in the healthcare industry.

ACCOLADES TO NATIONAL REFERENCE LABORATORIES NIP KATUTURA & WINDHOEK NIP SWAKOPMUND ON ATTAINING CONTINUOUS ACCREDITATION TO ISO 15189:2022.

The NRL Katutura, NRL Windhoek and Swakopmund laboratories underwent periodic accreditation assessments to ISO 15189:2022 in February 2026.

The accreditation assessment was conducted by an external, independent, and impartial body called Southern African Development Community Accreditation Services (SADCAS), to establish whether the laboratory conforms to the requirements of ISO 15189:2022

The laboratories have successfully attained recommendation for continuous accreditation to ISO 15189:2022

This ultimately means that these laboratories successfully demonstrated conformance to its internal quality requirements, as well as with the requirements for quality and competence as set forth in the ISO 15189:2022 standard.

Furthermore, the laboratories have expanded the number of tests on their accreditation scope. The Katutura lab has expanded its scope by obtaining accreditation for the following tests:

Triglycerides, Phosphate, and Cholesterol (HDL). Similarly, the Swakopmund laboratory expanded its scope by having the following tests accredited: Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate and the complete endocrinology profile, which comprises 13 hormonal tests.

Welcome Aboard

The Namibia Institute of Pathology Limited wholeheartedly welcomes Dr. Mugabe Fiacre Byiringiro, an Anatomical Pathologist, and Dr. Simon Sekyanzi, a Microbiologist Pathologist, who joined our team in February 2026.

Anatomical pathologists play a critical role behind the scenes of patient care. By carefully examining tissues, organs, and cells, Dr. Byiringiro helps doctors understand what disease is present, how advanced it is, and which treatment options are most appropriate. His work is essential for accurate diagnoses in conditions such as cancer and other complex diseases.

Microbiology pathologists focus on diseases caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. Dr. Sekyanzi’s work supports both individual patient care and national public health by identifying infections, guiding treatment, and helping prevent the spread of infectious diseases within our communities.

Together, these specialists enhance NIP’s capacity to provide accurate, high-quality diagnostic services that enable effective clinical decision-making and safeguard public health.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Byiringiro and Dr. Sekyanzi to the NIP family.
