THE PROBLEMS WITH PLASTICS:
Plastic, according to Oxford advanced learner's dictionary, is " a light strong material that is produced through chemical process and can be formed into shapes when heated. They are used to produce materials of different shapes and sizes, such as plastic bags, food storage containers, cups, cutlery, bottles, shoes to mention but a few. Over the years, plastics have proved to be very useful, especially in food and drink production and packaging. Most times, people often get food processed, packaged shipped and reheated in plastic containers. Most drinks such as water, milk, juice and soft drinks are often packaged in plastic bottles.
Although plastics make eating, storing and distribution of food and drinks much easier, recent studies and discussions have shown that plastics do not only act as pollutants to our environment, they are also very dangerous to human health. This is as a result of their chemical composition.
Generally, most plastics contain Bisphenol A (BPA), a material used in manufacturing them to make them durable. This chemical has adverse effect on human health. Health challenges such as cancer, indigestion, ulcers, skins diseases, liver dysfunction, birth defects of male and female ge****ls, obesity, neurological problems like attention deficit, vision failure etc., are some of the dangers of addictive use of plastics.
Apparently, it's almost impossible to completely do without plastic products, but we can reduce their purchase and use. Hence to reduce exposure to plastics, these suggestions will be helpful. Use glass or stainless water bottle instead of disposable water bottle, reusable grocery bags instead of plastic bags, use glass or stainless steel for food storage in place of plastic storage containers. Moreover, don't use plastics in microwave and avoid putting hot food or drinks into them. Remember, it's better and less expensive to prevent diseases than to cure them.

ASIDE KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE.......Continued.
Rhesus induced antibodies are activated in a Rhesus negative (Rh-) woman by child birth, abortion miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy. The possibility of a Rh- woman finding a rhesus negative man is slim as about 85% if humans are Rh factor positive.
ANY REMEDY? YES!
In other to prevent the activation of the antibodies, doctors would give women in this category an injection called "RHOGAM" during and after pregnancy to prevent spontaneous abortion due to rhesus factor incompatibility. The injection is normally administered 28weeks into pregnancy, 72hours after delivery, after ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage or abortion. If the injection is not administered and the antibodies are activated, they would never be deactivated again!
In many African countries up till today, women who are so unfortunate to find themselves having serial spontaneous abortion due to rhesus factor incompatibility are considered witches by some of their people. Some of the women would accuse their in-laws of being behind their predicament. So, if you are a woman with Rh factor negative, you need to be very careful. It might be difficult for you to get a husband with Rh- because about 85% of humans are Rh+.
So, in other not to find yourself in he afore mentioned problem, put all that have been said at the back of your mind and go for genetic counselling.
It should also be noted that a rhesus negative person ( man or woman) cannot receive blood donation from a rhesus positive person even if they have the same blood group. The consequence of such blood donation is fatal. It would lead to death as the blood would clot. This is due to the incompatibility of their rhesus factor.
KNOW YOUR RHESUS FACTOR TODAY. God bless

ASIDE KNOWING YOUR GENOTYPE BEFORE MARRIAGE, THERE'S NEED FOR A WOMAN TO KNOW HER RHESUS FACTOR.--- RHESUS FACTOR INCOMPATIBILITY IS A LEADING CAUSE OF MISCARRIAGE! NOT ALWAYS YOUR VILLAGE PEOPLE ! PLEASE TAKE TIME TO READ THIS.
Rhesus factor is an antigen that exist on the surface of red blood cells in most people ( about 85% of humans). It is also referred to as Rh factor. People who have the Rh have "positive" (+) blood types such as A+, B+ or O+ and are said to be rhesus factor positive, while those who have Rh " negative "(-) blood types such as A-, B- or O- are said to be rhesus factor negative. The "+" and "-" after the blood group is the rhesus factor. Generally, we have A+,A-,B+,B-,AB+,AB-,O+ and O-. Rhesus factor is genetic in nature. It is inherited from the parents, emphatically the father.
HOW DOES RHESUS FACTOR CAUSE MISCARRIAGE?
If a Rh negative woman is impregnated by a Rh negative man, there wouldn't be any problem. However, if a Rh negative woman is impregnated by a man with Rh positive, there would be problem if the baby inherits Rh+ from the father. We have here what is called rhesus factor incompatibility. The baby would obviously be rhesus factor positive. During child birth, once the baby's Rh+ blood comes in contact with the woman's Rh- during delivery, the antibodies are immediately activated by the woman's body immune system. The activated antibodies would see the new Rh+ as foreign body or a threat and consequently they would be at alert to attack and get rid of the foreign body. Unfortunately as such, after this particular child birth, the woman would keep having miscarriages because the activated antibodies would see subsequent Rh positive pregnancies as foreign bodies and would keep fighting and taking them off.
Women with Rh activated antibodies are said to be rhesus factor sensitized and once these antibodies are activated, they can never be deactivated until the woman dies......... To be continued.

MEAT: WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT IT?
A healthy consumption of protein is essential for he development of the muscles, bones cartilage and blood. It is also instrumental to general growth, maintenance and repair of the body. One major source of protein is meat.
Meat, whether red or white, is composed mainly of water, protein, essential amino acids and fat, and essentially prevents zinc and iron deficiency in the body. Research shows that 46% of girls between 11 and 18years of age and 23% of women between 19 and 64years have low iron intakes, leading to anaemia ( symptoms could be fatigue, headache, inability to concentrate and touchiness).
Meat is a great source of vitamin B12, selenium, phosphorus, thiamine, biotin, folacin, niacin, vitamin B6, riboflavin, iron, copper, zinc and manganese. Red meat for instance, contains vitamin B6, which is vital for normal immune function and helps to regulate blood sugar level; and B12, a building block for red blood cells and the DNA inside the cells. It is also rich in iron, a components responsible for the metabolism of energy, cognitive development in children, formation of red blood cells and transportation of oxygen in he blood. The body cell can't survive without iron.
However, caution must be taken when consuming meat. High consumption of red meat in particular can lead to a high production of uric acid, which causes gout ( a metabolic disease marked by a painful inflammation). Medical experts say the high level of iron could tell on a person's health as he ages, though the case is not the same for children who are still growing. All adults are cautioned to eat meat moderately for the sake of their health.

But the truth remains that regular wellness check-up can actually save lives. According to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, A medical check-up, is the process by which a medical professional investigates the body of a patient for signs of diseases. OBESITY; ITS CAUSES,EFFECTS IN HEALTH AND PREVENTION.
Obesity is a condition where an individual has a Body Mass Index (BMI) greater than 30kg/m2. It is a disease seen in adults and children alike. It is a bodily condition marked by excessive deposition and storage of fat which develops gradually with time and does not happen overnight.
CAUSES:
1) Energy imbalance: both overweight and obesity are a result of eating an excess of high-energy foods laden with fat and sugar. These come in the form of highly processed comfort foods, restaurant foods, sugar colas and drinks among others.
2) Hormones: there are hormones that make or break your weight. They are caller thyroid hormones secreted by the thyroid gland. They control the rate of metabolism. Any ups and down in these hormones seriously affects the body's ability to utilize stored fat.
3) Genetic reasons.
Other causes includes use of drugs like steroids, oral contraceptives, antidepressants, antihypertensives and insulin. These are commonly followed by weight gain.
Mechanical disabilities associated with obesity:
Osteoarthritis of knee and hip, lumber spine abdominal hernia, varicose vein, respiratory infections etc.
HOW TO DIAGNOSE OBESITY
••• Using Body Mass Index (BMI): This is defined as a persons weight in Kg divided by the square of his height in meters (Kg/m2).
REFERENCE NUMBERS FOR BMI...
Normal weight=18.5 - 24.9
Overweight= 25.0 - 29.9
Obesed= 30.0 - 39.9
Extremely obesed= 40.0 & above.
Hence, adult with BMI of 25 and more are considered overweight while those with BMI of 30 and more are considered obesed.
•••• Using waist circumference: A waist size greater than 35 inches for women and greater than 40inches for men is another way to diagnose obesity.
