The Federal Fire Service, FCT Command as directed by the FCT Controller of Fire, MS Anas were in Kugbo Timber and Furniture Market, to inspect the fire safety compliance of the market, educate the business people on fire safety precautions and train them on the use of first aid firefighting equipment. The team was led by the Command's Head of Inspection, Investigation and Enforcement (IIE) Unit, Chief Superintendent of Fire, CH Akam.

Federal Fire Service, FCT Command partners Kugbo Timber/Furniture Market to Strengthen Fire Safety Measures

-- Controller of Fire, MS Anas commits to enhancing fire safety measures in all Markets in the FCT.

As part of proactive measures to prevent fire outbreaks and mitigate losses at the Kugbo Timber Market and other Timber markets in Abuja, the Controller of Fire, Federal Fire Service, FCT Command, CF M.S. Anas, M.Tech Agric Econs, DRMDS, NISS, MIRAMN, F**A
convened a meeting with the executive members of various market associations of Kugbo Market Association on Wednesday at the Command Headquarters. The meeting focused on addressing the persistent risk of fire incidents in timber markets and developing practical strategies to mitigate such occurrences.

Speaking at the meeting, the Controller of Fire commended the officials of the Kugbo Timber Market for responding to the invitation and stressed the urgent need for proactive safety measures. He noted that timber markets, due to their combustible materials, are highly vulnerable to fire outbreaks.

As part of the resolutions reached, the Controller recommended the establishment of a mini fire station within or near the market to ensure rapid emergency response. He also advised the installation of fire hydrants at strategic points within the market and directed that fire extinguishers be provided in all sections.

The Controller further emphasized the importance of training traders and market workers on the proper use of fire extinguishers and general fire safety practices.

Responding, the representatives of the Kugbo Timber Market expressed their appreciation to the Fire Service for its concern and pledged full cooperation in implementing the recommended safety measures.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to conduct a joint inspection of the market and organize a comprehensive fire safety and disaster management training session for traders.
