Dr. Ajibade currently hosts and presents a weekly TV show entitled: Your Health in Your Hands, an innovative show focused on educating the Nigerian public on health matters of special importance to people of African, specifically Black African origin. This 30-minute segment, which is the third most viewed show on Africa’s largest television network highlights issues affecting Africans and Nigerians in particular, including mental health/brain disorders, cardiovascular concerns (e.g. hypertension), and cancer, and is viewed at least five times a week by millions both within and outside the country. Through this program and others, Dr. Ajibade hopes to bring these and other facts to our national consciousness and, more importantly, equip Nigerians with the knowledge they need to adequately address them. Through the media, live seminars, trainings, and partnerships, he is focused on bringing his experience, expertise, and connections to improving the delivery of health care in Nigeria and of the health of Nigerians as a whole.

As we age, our kidneys’ ability to filter waste declines, impacting how medications are processed in our bodies. Starting around age 40, kidney function naturally declines about 10 milliliters per minute every decade. This means that older adults may need adjustments in their medication dosages to ensure safety and efficacy.

Today we’re talking about thyroid health — that little gland that plays a big role in how you feel every day. It affects your energy, mood, skin, and even your heart rate. Sometimes things like inflammation, aging, or not getting enough nutrients like iodine or B vitamins can throw it off. Watch this to learn how to keep your thyroid happy and your body feeling its best.

From around age 35, women begin to experience gradual hormonal changes called perimenopause, a transition that can last 10 to 15 years.
While some women notice hot flashes and night sweats, others experience more subtle symptoms like brain fog, disrupted sleep, weight changes, or joint aches.
All these shifts are part of the body’s natural journey toward menopause.

Did you know that veterans, women, and Black individuals face twice the risk of certain health issues compared to the general population? As a Black veteran, I’m particularly concerned about this. It’s crucial that women, especially those approaching menopause, become more aware of their bodies and advocate for the necessary tests.

I was privileged to speak with Valerie Van de Zilver on her Always Ageless Podcast. We spoke at length on Dementia prevention and optimising both brain and body health.

One of the things we spoke on is how crucial it is for everyone to be proactive about their health by ensuring good sleep, regular exercise, and the right supplements. It’s also important to be aware of how environmental factors, like repeated concussions in sports or major life stressors such as divorce, can impact our brain and body over time. That’s why I think it’s essential for everyone, especially women managing multiple responsibilities, to take steps to mitigate these effects early on.

Individuals aged 40 and above may experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweats, and recurrent urinary tract infections. Available treatment options include hormone replacement therapy, both combined and estrogen-only for those without a uterus, as well as non-hormonal alternatives like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors and supplements. However, not everyone may be eligible for these treatments due to certain contraindications.

Understanding menopause is essential for every woman. It’s defined as the absence of menstrual periods for 12 consecutive months, typically around age 51. The journey begins with perimenopause, the transitional phase before menopause, and can start about five years prior. There’s also premature menopause, which occurs before age 40, often due to medical conditions.

As estrogen levels decline, the gut lining becomes thinner and more vulnerable to damage, leading to increased inflammation in the body. This inflammation is linked to a higher risk of autoimmune disorders in women, often surfacing around perimenopause. Addressing gut health and balancing hormones is key to managing and preventing these conditions.

Emergency response isn’t a one-person job, it’s a system built on teamwork. Every responder is trained in basic emergency care, but each brings a unique specialization. From ER physicians to cardiologists and trauma experts. This coordinated network ensures that patients get swift, targeted care right from the scene to the hospital, improving survival rates and outcomes.

Dr. Obire explains how his team bridges the critical gap between emergency response and hospital care. After stabilizing patients on the spot, they ensure seamless handovers to the patient’s preferred hospital, all while sharing real-time medical data. This innovative approach is revolutionizing emergency care in Nigeria, ensuring patients get the right treatment without delay.

I had the privilege of hosting Dr. Benjamin Obire. After losing loved ones to inadequate emergency care in Nigeria, he created a revolutionary solution: patented ICU ambulance motorbikes that drastically cut response times. This innovation is transforming emergency medical services in Nigeria, making timely care accessible and saving countless lives.
