FMC Abuja Hosts Free Cancer Screening for 1000 Public Servants
The Federal Medical Centre Abuja in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has launched a public awareness and free cancer screening exercise for breast, cervical, prostate, and colorectal cancer. The initiative, which aims to screen 1000 public servants, is part of the National Sports Fiesta against Cancer, organized by the National Cancer Control Programme of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
The exercise is being carried out in commemoration of this year's October Breast Cancer Awareness Month globally. During the official flag off ceremony, the Medical Director of FMC Abuja, Prof. Saad Ahmed, ably represented by the Head of Clinical Services Dr Bioku Muftau emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, "Early detection is key to cancer treatment and management. He stated that FMC Abuja is always committed to providing quality healthcare services to the public, and this exercise is a significant step in that direction."
The FMC Abuja screening team, led by Dr. Tessy Ahmadu and Head of Laboratory Services, Sci. Jude Odugu, were on ground to provide the screening services.
The National Cancer Control Programme's efforts to raise awareness about cancer and promote early detection are commendable and FMC Abuja's participation in this initiative stress its commitment to public health and well-being. As Prof. Saad Ahmed aptly put it, "Cancer awareness and screening are crucial in the fight against cancer. We must work together to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare services."
The free cancer screening exercise is ongoing, and FMC Abuja through the collaboration is expected to provide comprehensive screening exercise for the 1000 public servants.
