THE UNNECESSARY LOSS : A CALL TO ACTION IN NIGERIA’s HEALTHCARE SYSTEM
My heart is heavy as I share the tragic loss of a precious life, taken too soon by a snake bite that could have been treated. She died not because there was no cure, but because our healthcare system failed her. Anti-venom, a life-saving treatment, was nowhere to be found. This is the harsh reality in Nigeria, where our healthcare system has collapsed, and lives are lost due to neglect and lack of resources.
As a healthcare professional and advocate for preventive medicine, I'm compelled to speak out. We are failing our people. We are failing our communities. The lack of access to essential medications like anti-venom is a ticking time bomb, claiming lives and leaving families shattered.
This is not just a statistic; it's a human life, a daughter, a mother, a sister, a friend. Her memory deserves better. Her death demands action.
We need to demand more from our leaders. We need to prioritize healthcare. We need to ensure that essential medications are available and accessible.
This is the time for everyone to speak up not just doctors and healthcare professionals.
Rest in peace, dear IFUNANYA 💔 . Your memory will fuel our fight for a better healthcare system.
