Mental Benefits of Seniors Going Outdoors
The brain needs a break from spending most of the day processing, filtering, and responding to stimulation. Nature provides space for the brain to restore. It is in the genetic programming for nature to activate parts of the brain responsible for love and empathy. Studies show that spending time outdoors can:
1. Increase feelings of contentment
2. Slow down anxiety
3. Reduce feelings of anger
4. Reduce depression
Do not let seniors focus on what is around them. It often makes anxiety and depression worse. Let them enjoy life outdoor most of the time.
