FEDERAL FIRE FC MAKES HISTORIC ENTRY INTO NLO 2026/2027, STEPS UP PREPARATIONS WITH FRIENDLY MATCHES IN ABUJA

Federal Fire FC have intensified preparations for the upcoming Nationwide League One (NLO) 2026/2027 season, marking a historic milestone as the club participates in the league for the first time. The team engaged in two friendly matches in Abuja, offering both Team A and Team B the opportunity to build match fitness and tactical cohesion ahead of their debut campaign.

The Nationwide League One (NLO), regarded as one of Nigeria’s most competitive grassroots football leagues, serves as the third tier of the Nigerian football league system and provides a vital platform for talent development and club advancement into higher divisions. Fire FC’s qualification into the league underscores a significant achievement for the club and reflects its growing presence in the national football landscape.

In the first fixture, Fire FC’s Team A settled for a goalless draw against Unique FA in a tightly contested encounter. The match highlighted the team’s defensive discipline and organization, as they successfully contained their opponents throughout the game. While Fire FC created a number of attacking opportunities, they were unable to convert, with both sides ending the match without a goal.

The second match saw Team B face RASA Selected in a more competitive and entertaining clash. After a balanced first half, RASA Selected took control in the second half, scoring twice to gain a comfortable advantage. Fire FC responded late with a goal to reduce the deficit to 2–1, but their comeback effort fell short as RASA held on for the win.

Both matches, held at the Area 10 Sports Complex, formed a key part of Fire FC’s preseason program. The technical crew used the fixtures to evaluate player performance, assess squad depth, and experiment with tactical setups ahead of the new campaign.

Overall, the matches provided valuable insights for the coaching staff. Fire FC showed encouraging signs, particularly in their defensive structure and competitiveness, but will need to improve their attacking efficiency and defensive concentration going forward.

Speaking after the matches, the Sports Director, Federal Fire Service, CSF Victor Unofin, expressed appreciation to the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, FCNA, ACTI, for the support, facilitation, and approval that made it possible for the team to qualify and participate in the NLO 2026/2027 season. He noted that the leadership’s commitment has significantly boosted the morale of the players and technical crew, positioning the club for a strong and competitive debut.

With the new NLO season fast approaching, Fire FC will aim to build on these performances as they continue preparations for what promises to be a challenging but historic campaign.

PRESS RELEASE

FFS SEEKS PRIVATE SECTOR BACKING TO CLOSE CRITICAL GAPS IN NIGERIA’S FIRE EMERGENCY SYSTEM

The Federal Fire Service (FFS) has intensified calls for strategic private sector collaboration to address critical gaps in Nigeria’s fire emergency and rescue system.

Leading this charge, the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, ACTI, FCNA, during a strategic visit to BUA Group under the Abdul Samad Rabiu Africa (ASR Africa) Initiative, in Abuja, highlighted urgent national needs requiring immediate attention.

He pointed to inadequate fire station coverage, limited firefighting equipment, and insufficient emergency medical response capacity as major challenges affecting timely intervention during emergencies.

“Improving response time is not optional, it is essential to saving lives,” the Controller General stated, stressing that expanding fire station networks and strengthening emergency medical services must be treated as national priorities.

While commending ASR Africa for its exemplary safety culture and investment in a private fire station, he emphasized the need for a more integrated system where private and public firefighting efforts are aligned under national standards.

He noted that closer collaboration between the Federal Fire Service and ASR Africa would enable the conduct of joint operational drills and simulation exercises, while also creating opportunities for structured training programmes for fire personnel. He further explained that such collaboration would extend to sensitising and equipping host communities with practical fire safety knowledge, thereby strengthening grassroots emergency preparedness.

The Controller General also made a strong case for investment in emergency medical services within the Federal Fire Service, noting that the current number of ambulances falls short of growing national demand. He called for sustained support in this area, alongside broader partnerships aimed at improving infrastructure, operational capacity, and overall emergency response effectiveness.

He further emphasized that strategic collaboration with the private sector remains vital to building a more responsive, modern, and inclusive fire safety system across Nigeria.

In his remarks, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of ASR Africa, Dr. Ubon Udoh, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to maintaining high safety standards and supporting initiatives that enhance community protection and operational excellence.

In case of fire or related emergencies, members of the public are advised to promptly contact the Federal Fire Service via the national emergency lines: 112 or 08032003557.

FIRE SERVICE, ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION FORGE STRATEGIC ALLIANCE TO STRENGTHEN NUCLEAR SAFETY PREPAREDNESS

In a proactive move to reinforce Nigeria’s emergency preparedness for high-risk and sensitive environments, the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, ACTI, FCNA, today led a high-level delegation to the headquarters of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission (NAEC) in Abuja.

The engagement underscores a critical national priority, ensuring that Nigeria’s growing atomic energy and research infrastructure is supported by a robust, specialized fire and emergency response framework, particularly in the event of nuclear-related incidents.

Speaking during the visit, the Controller General highlighted the Federal Fire Service’s statutory responsibility to respond to all forms of fire and emergency situations, including those involving hazardous and complex environments such as nuclear and radiological facilities. He emphasized that this evolving risk landscape necessitates continuous capacity building, specialized training, and inter-agency collaboration.

As part of the strategic engagement, the Controller General assured that the Federal Fire Service is prepared to provide dedicated fire safety coverage for NAEC’s research centres and facilities nationwide. This includes the deployment of trained firefighting personnel to man critical installations, provision of tailored fire safety training for operational readiness, and sustained public safety awareness initiatives, all at no cost to the Commission.

He further stressed that strengthening the capacity of firefighters to effectively respond to nuclear or radiological emergencies remains a key component of the collaboration, ensuring that personnel are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to operate safely and efficiently in such highly specialized environments.

In his remarks, the Acting Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NAEC, Dr. Engr. Anthony L. G. Ekedegwa, MNSE, CEng., welcomed the partnership, noting that both institutions share a common mandate in safeguarding lives, property, and critical national assets. He described the collaboration as a strategic alignment that will enhance safety standards across Nigeria’s nuclear and research facilities.

Dr. Ekedegwa also emphasized the importance of capacity development, indicating that opportunities exist for Federal Fire Service personnel to benefit from international training frameworks, particularly through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), to build competence in managing nuclear and radiological emergencies.

The discussions also highlighted the need for structured fire cover across NAEC’s research centres and facilities nationwide, emphasizing the importance of proper deployment of Federal Fire Service personnel to man these installations for the effective utilization of available fire trucks and other firefighting equipment.

EID-EL-FITR: CGF OLUMODE DIRECTS FULL FIRE SAFETY COVERAGE AS PERSONNEL REMAIN ON DUTY NATIONWIDE

As Muslims across Nigeria prepare to celebrate the forthcoming Eid-el-Fitr festival, the Controller General, Federal Fire Service, Olumode Samuel Adeyemi, MBA, MDRM, FCNA, ACTI, has directed full fire safety coverage across the country throughout the public holiday period.

The Controller General assured Nigerians that all Federal Fire Service stations nationwide will remain fully operational, with firefighters and emergency response personnel on active standby to respond promptly to any fire outbreak or related emergencies.

He emphasized that public holidays do not suspend the duties of Federal Fire Service personnel, noting that officers of the Service remain committed to safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure at all times.

The CGF noted that the current hot and dry weather conditions are often associated with an increase in fire incidents, particularly those arising from electrical faults, cooking activities, and careless handling of flammable materials.

He therefore encouraged households and business premises to install and maintain basic fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, fire blankets, smoke detectors, and fire alarm systems, which can help detect and control fires at the incipient stage before they escalate.

According to him, portable fire safety devices can be useful in combating small fires at their early stage, but members of the public are advised to exercise extreme caution when attempting to fight a fire. If the fire appears to be spreading or beyond control, individuals should immediately evacuate the area and contact the Federal Fire Service without delay.

While extending advance Eid-el-Fitr greetings to the Muslim faithful and all Nigerians, the Controller General urged citizens to remain vigilant and prioritize fire safety in their homes and communities during the festive period.

Members of the public are advised to report any fire outbreak or related emergency immediately through the national emergency number 112 or the Federal Fire Service emergency line 08032003557 for prompt response.

The Federal Fire Service reassures Nigerians of its unwavering commitment to protecting lives, property, and communities across the nation while ensuring a safe and incident-free Eid-el-Fitr celebration for all.
