At the ETF Launch Event, , founder of OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community, shared a vision that goes beyond instruments:

🔹 “ETF goes beyond Optometry Instruments. We hope to Equip The Future with mentorship, advocacy and leadership skills as well.”

He went further to stress the power of collaboration:
🔹 “I don’t think we need to convince anyone about why optometry students should collaborate across borders. The benefits are already obvious. The growth we’ve seen in the last two years is proof of that.”

His speech captured the essence of the ETF Project — equipping students not only with tools, but with the networks, mentorship, and leadership skills to transform optometry across borders.

Still on our highlights from the ETF Launch Event, we share the reflections of Nemi Gladin, , Vice President of OSAF UNIBEN Chapter:

🔹 “Due to gaps in clinical practice among students, we have witnessed higher failure rates in clinical exams and a decline in trust from some clinics to permit student trainees to carry out procedures on patients.”

🔹 “Some students have no idea about the needed clinical instruments and how to access them, so there should be early awareness for both parents and students.”

His words emphasize the importance of early preparation and awareness in strengthening clinical training. The ETF Project, supported by and OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community, is committed to bridging these gaps and ensuring students are equipped to succeed.

Continuing our highlights from the ETF Launch Event, we share the words of Kosisochukwu Precious Umeh, Vice President of .ng :

🔹 “Despite the fact that optometry instruments are very expensive, there are still affordable brands available. However, due to standardisation, students are often unable to afford the well‑known brands, and this greatly impedes their ability to properly master essential clinical skills.”

🔹 “Many Optometry Schools have limited instruments available for the students, and this affects the sharpness of their clinical skills due to lack of clinical practice.”

Her reflections underscore the urgent need for initiatives like the ETF Project, supported by and OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community, to make clinical instruments more accessible and strengthen student training.

From the ETF Launch Event, we share the words of Praise Ebure, President of the NOSA Bayelsa Medical University Chapter, OSAF BMU President, and KTG BMU President:

🔹 “Initiatives like Equipping The Future (ETF) are what we need in times like this, as the prices of clinical instruments and equipment are outrageously high.”

His statement reflects the urgent need for support systems that make clinical tools more accessible to students. The ETF Project, backed by and OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community, is committed to bridging this gap and empowering the next generation of optometrists.

From the ETF Launch Event, we share insights from Amos Ekeleni, President of the NOSA Novena University Chapter:

🔹 “In 3rd and 4th year (pre‑clinicals) of optometry school, some courses need each student to have their own basic equipment to really understand them. When students don’t have their own equipment, it slows down their learning and makes it harder to grasp the courses.”

🔹 “If you practice something 1,000 times, you will master it. This shows how closely students’ clinical skills are tied to having their own basic clinical equipment.”

His words emphasize the importance of personal commitment and access to tools in building strong clinical skills — a message that aligns with the vision of OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community and .

Continuing our highlights from the Physical Launch Event for the ETF Project, we share the words of Dr. Emmanuel Ujiogba, Immediate Past Vice President of the Nigerian Optometric Students Association, who gave a short lecture and the Vote of Thanks.

From his speech:
🔹 “Knowledge turns confusion into clarity and fear into confidence. So invest in your mind — it’s the only wealth people can’t steal.”
🔹 “When I was a student, I realized that owning clinical instruments and practicing personally was the secret to being good.”

His reflections remind us that true growth in optometry comes from both knowledge and practice — values at the heart of the ETF Project, supported by and OPTOGLOBE | The Global Optometry Student Community. 🌍👁️
