PHYTOESTROGENS ARE NOT YOUR ENEMY (READ THIS AGAIN!)
When we talked about balancing estrogen during our live session on endometriosis, many people got worried when we mentioned flaxseed.
“Isn’t flaxseed high in estrogen?” “So won’t it make my condition worse?”
Let’s clear this up once and for all.
Phytoestrogens are NOT the same as your body’s estrogen.
They are plant compounds that only “act like” estrogen in a very gentle and intelligent way.
In fact, they don’t increase estrogen blindly , they help your body balance it.
Here’s the mind shift:
👉 If your estrogen is too high (which is common in endometriosis), phytoestrogens can block the stronger harmful estrogen from binding to receptors.
👉 If your estrogen is too low, they can gently support and mimic estrogen to maintain balance.
So they don’t worsen estrogen dominance, they actually help regulate it.
Now let’s talk about FLAXSEED specifically…
Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of phytoestrogens (called lignans), but that’s not even its biggest advantage.
It also helps your body REMOVE excess estrogen.
How?
✔️ It is rich in fiber and supports gut health
✔️ A healthy gut helps eliminate estrogen instead of reabsorbing it
✔️ It supports liver detox pathways
✔️ It reduces inflammation (very important in endometriosis)
So instead of feeding the problem, flaxseed helps your body clear it out.
The real problem is not estrogen itself…
It’s imbalance.
Estrogen is not bad. Your body needs it.
But when:
- Your gut is not working well
- Your liver is overloaded
- You’re eating low fiber, high processed foods
That’s when estrogen builds up and starts causing issues like:
- Endometriosis
- Fibroids
- Painful periods
So avoiding foods like flaxseed out of fear?
That’s working against your healing.
The goal is not to eliminate estrogen —
the goal is to teach your body how to balance it naturally.
Simple tip to start: Add 1–2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed to your daily routine (smoothies, pap, yogurt).
Consistency is key.
