This is TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF THE PROSTATE (TURP), a frequently done procedure for Prostate enlargement at Cymbals Specialist hospital.
The prostate gland can enlarge to the point of causing difficulty in passing urine, stones in the urinary bladder, urinary tract infection, bleeding, kidney failure and so on.
Then, the prostate gland needs to be removed by surgical operation.
How is this done?
TURP is a better way of removing the prostate. It does not involve any cut on the belly of the patient and hospital stay is far less.
During TURP, the prostate gland is removed piece-meal through a special instrument passed through the p***s as shown in the picture. The resected prostate will then be washed out through the p***s.
The patient won't feel any pain as anaesthesia would have been given and he will be watching everything that is being done on a monitor!
