*ETI-OSA EAST LCDA CHAIRMAN MEETS PSP OPERATORS ON WASTE MANAGEMENT*
The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa East LCDA, Hon. Biliaminu Samsideen Agunbiade, has held a strategic meeting with Private Sector Participants (PSP) operators to address critical issues affecting waste management within the council area.
Speaking on behalf of the PSP operators, Mr. Awesu Wasiu noted the challenge of low patronage from residents, stressing that operators cannot continue to evacuate refuse from road medians for individuals who fail to subscribe to their services. He also called for stronger collaboration with health officers and emphasized the need for a functional enforcement system through the courts.
Other operators, including Blessing Bolu Ventures, explained that some residents deliberately avoid payment, assuming that LAWMA will eventually clear the waste. They suggested that Environmental Health Officers (Wole Wole) should intensify house-to-house checks, demand proof of PSP or LAWMA subscription, and enforce compliance where necessary.
In his address, Hon. Agunbiade expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the Environmental Unit, insisting that all residents must comply with waste management regulations. He charged PSP operators to redouble their efforts by ensuring that every household and shop within their jurisdiction is registered.
“If everyone registers, there will be no reason for refuse to be dumped on road medians. I want my people to live healthily, and with your cooperation, our environment will be clean, safe, and habitable. The Chairman declared.
One of the Health Officer, Mr. Ayinde, pointed out that many PSP operators lack sufficient infrastructure, as some do not own trucks but rely on rentals, which affects efficiency.
Another PSP representatives also appealed to colleagues to step up their activities, particularly in registering shop owners along major roads, as many residents are willing to comply but often find no PSP operator available.
The meeting ended with a mutual commitment between the council and PSP operators to strengthen collaboration and ensure proper waste management across Eti-Osa East LCDA.
