ANNOUNCEMENT: WORLD VETERINARY DAY 2026 CELEBRATION – NVMA BAUCHI STATE CHAPTER

Dear Esteemed Colleagues,

The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA), Bauchi State Chapter, is set to commemorate World Veterinary Day 2026, observed globally on April 25th every year.

This year’s celebration is themed:
“Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health” – highlighting the vital role of veterinarians in safeguarding animal health, ensuring food safety, and protecting public health.

To mark this important occasion, the Association has lined up the following activities:

1. Road Walk (Awareness Campaign) and Distribution of Educative Flyers

📅 Date: Saturday, 25th April, 2026
📍 Take-off Point: Emir’s Palace, Bauchi
🚶‍♂️ Route: Emir’s Palace to Area Veterinary Clinic, Ran Gate, Bauchi
📝 This activity aims to create public awareness on animal health, rabies prevention, and food safety, while engaging the public through direct sensitization and dissemination of informative materials.

🎽 Participants will receive a special "World Veterinary Day 2026" T‑shirt.

2. Weekly Radio Programme

To further educate the public, special radio engagements will be aired on:

· Globe FM Bauchi
· Albarka Radio FM Bauchi

📅 Date: Friday, 24th April, 2026

3. World Veterinary Day Online Awareness Campaign

Curated educational videos will be shared on the NVMA Bauchi Chapter page on Saturday, 25th April, 2026, to reach a wider audience and promote best practices in animal care and public health.

These activities are designed to promote awareness, support livestock farmers, and strengthen veterinary service delivery across Bauchi State.

The general public, livestock owners, and all stakeholders are cordially invited to participate and benefit from these programmes.

📣 We are inviting multidisciplinary teams to participate in an international datathon on animal health data science, focusing on surveillance, risk, trade and impact assessment.

⤵️ Participants will work remotely over several months to address real‑world analytical challenges using pilot datasets provided by WOAH and partners. The datathon aims to stimulate innovation, methodological rigor and decision‑relevant analytics in animal health.

🐺 The datathon is open to international, multidisciplinary teams (1–6 members), including but not limited to data scientists, statisticians, epidemiologists, economists, computer scientists, public health and animal health professionals.

💰 Winning teams will receive prize money, the opportunity to be featured in The Animal Echo and to present their work at a dedicated side event during the WOAH General Session in 2027.

💼 Deadline for registration: 31 May 2026
🔌 Final submission: analytical pipeline + report on a git repo by October 31st, 2026.
