What happens in the brain🧠 🧠

When a person has strabismus (commonly called "crossed eyes" or "squint"), the brain receives two different images from each eye because the eyes are not aligned. This causes confusion and difficulty in combining both images into a single, clear, 3D picture. Here's what happens in the brain.

Double vision:
At first, especially in adults or newly acquired strabismus, the brain sees two separate images one from each eye. This is called diplopia (double vision). It’s disorienting and uncomfortable.

Suppression:
In children, the brain often adapts by suppressing (turning off) the image from the misaligned eye to avoid double vision. This stops the confusion.

Strabismus part 2

Think of it like this:
Imagine two people paddling a canoe. If one stops paddling, the canoe turns to one side. That’s kind of what happens in strabismus.

Well, your eyes move
using six tiny muscles around each eye. These muscles must work together to keep both eyes aligned and moving smoothly.
But when one or more of these muscles is weakened, too tight, or not working properly, it can cause one eye to drift away either inward, outward, upward, or downward.

Have you ever looked someone in the eye and felt like something was off?
Like they were looking past you, or their eyes weren’t in the same direction? (This is called strabismus or squint)

This week, we’re exposing the truths about strabismus:

Why do eyes go in different directions?

What happens inside the brain?

Can a child really go blind in one eye without pain, without anyone noticing?

And yes can it be fixed?

I’m truly sorry for being away for so long. Life happened but thank you for staying. Your quiet support means everything.

If you spend a lot of time at the computer or focusing on one thing, you sometime forget to blink and your eyes can get fatigue.
Try 20-20-20 rules
Every 20 minutes, look away about 20 feet in front of you for 20 seconds. This short exercise can help reduce eyestrain.
