TOPIC: WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST(PART 2)
⚓Scripture: Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?

Beloved, welcome to another Moment of Daily Encounter! We are having been describing who we are in Christ for some time now. But today, we want to answer the question why do you need to know who you are?

*Why do you need to know who you are in Christ?*
I. To avoid being bitter
For more details check yesterday's meditation.

II. To be able to walk in power: The power of God that ia available to believers in Christ Jesus is a function of the knowledge of your identity in Christ. You cannot know it and not act it! What you know is what you show because our behaviours are largely reflection of our knowledge. Yesterday's, we said there are many bitter Christians because they lack knowledge of their identity. Now imagine someone who is full of resentment as a result of past hurt, the pain is so much that he/she is even transferring the aggression on innocent people around him or her. How can such a person walk in power? Of course such a person can never walk in power because a heart filled with animosity, offence will eventually disconnect from the Holy Spirit the dispenser of the power of God for the New Testament believers. But if you know who you are you will not permit it. Even when Satan sent them to hurt you, you will refuse to be offended. Yes, there are agent of the devil everywhere sent to hurt you and cause you pain. Some of them exist as spouse, neighbours, friends or colleagues. And when they are done hurting you, they will watch from far, how you are reacting to the hurting project that satan sent them. In some cases they will ask those who are very close to you, just to find out your reaction to what they did to you. My dear, if you have such people around you don't allow them to achieve their evil assignment of killing your joy. Forgive them quickly and move on with your life. They want to kill the sweet fellowship you are having with the Holy Spirit because offense in the heart will disconnect you from the Holy Spirit and eventually from the power of God.

From our anchor scripture Jesus said:
*Mark 12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God?*

Observe the clause "ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God" - meaning it is possible not to know the power of God! Knowledge is power! The knowledge of who you, whom you are and whose you are plus the knowledge of the God you know has a wa of empowering your life. Power flows in the channels of revelational knowledge.

*How does the knowledge of your identity helps you to walk in power?*
I. It brings the consciousness of whom you are and the presence of God in your life. The Bible said:
*Ephesians 3:20 Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us* ,

Observe the clause, the power that worketh in us- that speaks of the presence of God that is at work in us. Every child of God carries presence! And previously we have established that you are a child of God in Christ! God has adopted you into His family. So you have the right to use the family name and the family resources. In this case power is the resources of the family. The power of God is resident you and in many of us it is dormant because we are not aware of what we carry as power. Hence, we allow what we are supposed to pursue to be pursuing us around.

Beloved, you carry the presence of God! The presence is where the power of is domicile. Therefore the more time you spent in prayer conversation, deep worship etc, the more presence you carries. This is why we encourage you as a friend of God maintain sweet prayer communication with God.

II. It makes you obey God without complaining. Our many acts of disobedience is born of the fact that we don't know who is giving us instructions and the benefits that follow that instructions. For example, the president of your nation cannot be sending you an errands and you there complain! The reason is because you know Mr. President, what he is capable of doing and the dividend of running errands for Mr President. Now think about it, between Mr president and the God of the universe who is more superior? The authority Mr. President is tenure based, once his tenure expired his authority also expired but the God of the universe who does not change tenure, His authority is everlasting yet we will gladly obey Mr president and disobey God what an irony!. The knowledge of God you have plus the knowledge of your identity in Christ prevents you from walking in disobedience to God. And when you walk in obedience to God's instructions power flow unhindered. The hindrance to the flow of the power of God is disobedience. Elisha brought down fire from heaven in obedience to God's instructions (1Kg.18:36). Peter experience the power of God in catching a great fish in obedience to God's instructions. The Bible said:
*Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.*

You can begin to manifest the power of God from today as you walk in obedience

TOPIC: *WHY YOU NEED TO KNOW WHO YOU ARE IN CHRIST*
⚓Scripture: Hebrews 12: 15. Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;

Beloved, welcome to another Moment of Daily Encounter! We are having been describing who you are in Christ some time now. But today, we want to answer the question why do you need to know who you are?

*Why do you need to know who you are in Christ?*
I. To avoid being bitter: There are bitter Christians everywhere and I wish to submit to you the reason for being bitter is lack of understanding of their true identity in Christ.

*What is bitterness?*
Bitterness is having or showing deep-seated resentment! It settles in when someone focuses on anger over an emotional “violation” that has happened to them in the past.

*What does God said about bitterness?* God said no to bitterness, so your new identity in Christ forbid being bitter in away!
_Ephesians 4: 31. *Let all bitterness, and wrath* , and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:_

*How do you you know you are bitter?*
Nobody wants to agree that he/she is a bitter person, yet they are bitter because they don't know who they are in Christ! Now you know you are bitter if you exhibit any of this characteristics.
A.If you wade in self-pity: The bitter person often feels cheated by others and short-changed by life in general
B.You are looking for a fight: When a person is chronically bitter, they’re often in an antagonistic mindset and looking for a fight
C. If you are narcissistic: Not being able to see beyond your immediate want and needs
D. If you are drowning in animosity and resentment
E. If you have sociopathic pride:
Bitter people feel it’s the world that’s done them wrong and deserves the full expression of their blameless wrath.

F.You are full of vindictiveness: They often invent ways to get back at those they view as having neglected, mistreated, disrespected, or ignored them
G. You desire to make someone else suffer: A bitter person might spew their inner hurt and anger by saying and doing things that hurt the feelings of others.

*How does it come?*
Bitterness has a seed that is called offence or hurt. When planted on the soil of our heart, it germinate and produce roots. This why Jesus said :
*_Matthew 18: 7. Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!_*

So, it is certain that somebody must hurt you! But how you manage that hurt matters a lot. Most people are bitter today because they have not been able to manage their past hurt, which could be intentional or unintentional.

*What are the roots of bitterness?*
i. Presumption (Deut. 29:18-19): When you presume that you are right, and every other person is wrong! In your own world every body should apologize to you. When you presume that you have served God so much and God is owing you! When you presume God owns you explanation for every happening in your life, you will certainly be bitter against God. The same applies to the church and to people!

ii. Resentment : (Heb 12:14-15):
It is a growing hurt! This is why when someone hurts you quickly forgives the person because if you don't do it will settle in your heart and produce roots of bitterness.

*How do will deal with the problem of bitterness?*
I. By knowing your identity in Christ. Ask God to reveal your identity to you. Ask God to reveal the state of your heart. The Bible said:
*Jeremiah 17: 9. The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?*

It is very difficult for many to accept the fact that they are bitter, but God knows your heart, so let Him show you the picture of your heart.

II. Confront the bitterness like you will deal with every other sins: Confess to God and make demands for His help. Don't argue with the Holy Spirit once He reveal it to you, just own up your sin and let Him help you out.

III. Learn to pursue peace.
*_Hebrews 12: 14. Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord_ :*

You must consistently resist whatever will not allow peace to reign between you and others. However, there are difficult person that will make you unable to maintain peace. This what the Bible said :
*_Romans 12: 18. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men._*

You must try as much as it is possible within your power.

IV. Don't allow bitterness to germinate in your heart by forgiving offences as they come. It is those offences you didn't allow to go that has held you down. (Eph. 4:31)

V. Pray for the one who offended you. Forgiveness can be very tough but as you receive grace to pray for your offender, it become easy (Phil4:13)

VI. Understand that if you don't forgive, you will not receive forgiveness.
*Matthew 6: 14. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: 15. But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.*

TOPIC: UNDERSTANDING GOD'S COMMUNICATION CHANNELS AS A FRIEND OF GOD
⚓Scripture: John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Beloved, welcome to another Moment of Daily Encounter! Previously, we established that you are a friend of God. And we did established that as a friend we must maintain relationship by active, effective communication. Today, we intend to continue on the matter of communication as we examine communication channels that is necessary for maintaining relationship.

God is our father and also our friend so, he relate with us as friends. Our communication must be a two way process. That is we talk and God listen, while listening while God talks.

*How do we communicate with him?*
Primarily is through prayer! So, if you don't pray, you have invariably decided to create a gap between you and God. We must understand that God wants you more than you just meeting your needs. So, don't make your prayer time, a time of complaint about your needs that God has not met. Let your prayers time be a time of sweet fellowship with God, forget about your needs, and pour out your heart of love to him.

*What are the channels of communication between God and man?*
While we talked to God in prayer, God talked to us through:
I. The Bible: The Bible is the most authentic way of hearing what God has to say to us. We must, however, rely on the Holy Spirit to bring understanding to what God is saying to us from the Bible.
*John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.*

Now besides the Bible being the principal channels of communication between God and man, others channels are:
II. The Lord Jesus Christ is another channel of communication. The Bible said:
*Hebrews 1:1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;*

Jesus is the pattern son, so you can hear God by studying the life of Jesus. He came to reveal God to humanity
*John 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.*

Besides, Jesus is still appearing to those who are hungry enough to meet with God and are willing to meet Jesus in person.

III. Angels; This is another channel of God responding to the prayers of His children. In some cases, God will send his angels either to warn you or give you instructions. Or at least give answer to the questions of your heart. It could happened immediately after you just finished prayer or in the midst of fasting and prayer for example, a Centurion named Cornelius was fasting and praying and God sent his angels to Cornelius. The Bible said:
*Acts 10:3 He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius. 4 And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God* .

Observe the clause "Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God."! This is a message of hope to Cornelius. You see there are times, we might be discouraged to keep on praying just like Cornelius, in such a case, an angelic visitation is required to reassure our hearts that God has answered our prayers. You might be giving and think it is a waste of resources, my God will send you an angelic visitation tonight in the name of Jesus.

The angel also pass instructions to Cornelius thus:
*Acts 10:5 And now send men to Joppa, and call for one Simon, whose surname is Peter:*

So there are times, the angel will come with instructions on what God wants to do at that point in time. The key however, is to go back to the Bible to verify if such instructions is supported by the Bible because Satan could hijack this channel easily.

IV. Dreams and visions.: There are instances after you must have talk to God in prayer, he will return your answers through Dreams and vision. That's why we often encourage you watch over your dreams especially during fasting and prayer period. A good example is Paul to Macedonia call that came to him in the dream . For the Bible said:
*Acts 16:9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.*

Also, instructions came to Joseph via the dream. The Bible said:
*Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.*

It was in a vision that God revealed secrets to Daniel after praying with the wise men of Babylon when Nebuchadnezzer threatened of killing the wise men of Babylon. The Bible said:.
*Daniel 2:19 Then was the secret revealed unto Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of heaven.*

Beloved, God is your friend and the demands for friendship is intimacy, and communication, don't permit the communication to be one way traffic. Allow God to also speak by learning to be silent in God's presence, meditate and understand how the voice of God can come through the scriptures, angelic visitation and dreams and vision

TOPIC: KNOWING YOUR IDENTITY: IN CHRIST YOU ARE A FRIEND OF GOD (PART 2)
⚓Scripture: John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Beloved, welcome to another Moment of Daily Encounter! In continuation of our series on knowing your identity in Christ. Yesterday, we started looking at 'in Christ you are a friend of God' and we discovered that we are no longer enemies of God but friends as we turn to Jesus for salvation. We are now a friend of God.

*What does it mean to be a friend of God?*
I. It means you are now in intimate relationship with God.
II. To be a friend of God is to love him genuinely at all times.
III. To be a friend of God is to have a shared value with God
(For more details check yesterday's meditation)

IV. To be a friend of God is to have regular communication with God. This is where many of us are failing as believers in Christ. We desire to be a friend of God yet we are not in constant communication with him! Communication is the life wire of any relationship. You can not be in relationship with anyone without communication. Infact your communication must be effective. So, to be in relationship with God, you must be talking to God every day and God also talking to you by responding to your questions and answers your supplication and petition. This is what makes communication effective! Some of us our communication is one way traffic. We talk to God but don't wait to hear what God will say to us.

The primary way the believers talk to God is through prayer! So in prayer we tell him how much we love Him and how kind he is been to us. We also tell him our needs, our worries and our fears. But we are not interested in God's program, God's concerns etc! As a friend, you must be interested in your friend's issue. If God is your friend, then whatever bothers you, bothers your friend and vice versa. Your communication must be two ways, while you talk God listen and when you are done talking, learn to listen to what God is saying. God is ready to unveiled secrets, instruct you and guide you. There should be sharing of information between you and your friend too.

*What is the mode of communication between God and man.?*
While man communicate to God through, prayers, praises, and worship songs. God communicate to man through the following;
I. Scripture:
After praying by pouring your heart to God, many ignore this channel of communication that God has designed for mankind. The Bible is a volume of 66 books, written by different authors at different times spanning a period of 1500 years with unique ability to reveal God's promises, God's principles and God's boundaries of commitment to man. There's no areas or issues of mankind that is not written in the bible.
The Bible said:
*2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:*

If you observe carefully the following clause can be deduce
A. 'for doctrine'- meaning if you want the matter of doctrinal teaching, the Bible is excellent for that. The word doctrine is a principles or a body of knowledge! Doctrine are what made a sound mind in Christianity

B. Then for reproof- meaning the Bible is meant to rebuke you or judge you when you are wrong. If God is your friend, then he should be able to rebuke you and one sure way he does it is through the Bible.
*Proverbs 6:23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:*

C. For correction as you open it to read the Bible expect correction as well because it will convict you of your wrong and point the areas you need to do amend. I'm aware many of us only open the Bible looking for promises to claim but not for correction or reproof. From today, if you open the Bible expect God to rebuke you and correct you from the pages of the bible. Until you have grown to points where God can rebuke you through the Bible, you are still a baby.

D. For instructions in righteousness: This is another important thing about the Bible, we can get instructions from the pages of the scriptures as we open it daily. If you don't expect instructions you may never receive one as you likely flip and pass the instructions coming to you from the pages of the scriptures. The Bible is the book of instructions and instructions are the key to high flyer. You don't fly the aircraft by guessing, it has to be by instructions . It is quite unfortunate that many of us are flying the aircraft of life without instruction because we have failed to sit down at the master's feet and listen attentively to God's instructions.
*Proverbs 1:8 My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:*

So, expect instructions from your father who is also your friend. Infact we are commanded to receive instructions:
*Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.*

However, you can refuse instruction! It is up to you. The Bible said:
*Proverbs 15:32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own soul: but he that heareth reproof getteth understanding.*

~ You are a friend of God, the Monarch of the universe, therefore no power will mess up with you again in the name of Jesus. I command whatever you have lost be recovered now in Jesus's name.

TOPIC: KNOWING YOUR IDENTITY: IN CHRIST YOU ARE A FRIEND OF GOD
⚓Scripture: John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

Beloved, welcome to another Moment of Daily Encounter! In continuation of our series on knowing your identity in Christ. Today, we shall be looking at 'in Christ you are a friend of God'

*IN CHRIST YOU ARE A FRIEND OF GOD*
What a good news to be called a friend of God! Yet this is who you are when you surrender to Lordship of Jesus. You are no longer an enemy but a friend.

*What does it mean to be a friend of God?*
I. It means you are now in intimate relationship with God. This is one of the beautiful thing about God and other gods! For example when a man approached an herbalist for solution to his problem, the herbalist is not going to ask you for your friendship neither will the deity he is mediating for request to be your friend. All that is necessary is provide the materials needed for rituals and then they say it is done or come at a certain day to collect the prepared charms. They are not interested in relationship with you. But our God is much more interested in having relationship with you than just solve your problem and you go away. He wants to be involved in every aspect of our lives, the unfortunate thing is that many are not interested in becoming a friend of God, they only need him to solve their problems and that is all. Beloved, even though, God desires to take away everything that is a concern to you, solve all your problems yet he is interested to be your friend! That's why He often grants you access to secrets. The Bible said:
*John 15:15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.*

So, are you interested in becoming God's friends? The Bible said:
*Proverbs 18:24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.*

Are you interested in relationship with God? Are you willing to be a friend?

II. To be a friend of God is to love him genuinely at all times. The Bible said:
*Proverbs 17:17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.*

You don't love only when he blessed you! You don't love Him only when it is going well with you! It is at all times. There are times God will permit certain things to happen just to test your love for him. It is your reactions at that time that determine if truly you love God or not just like he did to Abraham. It was after testing Abraham's love for him that he said:.
*Genesis 22:12 And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God, seeing thou hast not withheld thy son, thine only son from me. 16 And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: 17 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; 18 And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.*

You see where genuine love is there is no room for suspicion! He didn't suspect God or charge God for wanting to take away his son. But many of us suspect God, yet we say that we love Him! If truly you love God, you will trust him absolutely like Abraham did. This is what distinguished the two friends of God in the entire Old Testament from the rest. It will amaze you to know it was only Moses and Abraham that are the only friends of God in the entire Old Testament because their love for God was great. Today God has shed his love abroad in our hearts(Rom.5:5), so we are empowered to love and the proof of our love for God is in obedience. The Bible said:
*John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.*

Just as our anchor scripture has said:
*John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.*

Do you desire to be God's friends? Then live everyday in obedience to God's commandment.

III. To be a friend of God means to have a shared value. If God value souls then we must value souls. We must desire to see souls saved, established in Christ. That's why we must interceed for souls to be saved like Abraham interceeded for S***m and Moses interceede for entire nation of Israel to be saved. Don't close your eyes against your parents and other family members going into eternity in hell. Rather take an uproar and cry passionately for the salvation of your parents, immediate family, and every other persons around you. It is when we begin to share in what God valued that we are truly God's friends.
