Gombe State Strengthens Community Health Data Systems Through CBHMIS Stakeholder Engagement

The Gombe State Ministry of Health, in partnership with the State Primary Health Care Agency and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), hosted a stakeholder engagement meeting to strengthen PHC and improve community-level maternal and newborn data through the Community-Based Health Management Information System (CBHMIS).

Key state health officials emphasized the importance of stakeholder collaboration, cultural understanding, and active participation to ensure effective implementation.

The meeting outlined strategies for strengthening accurate community -level data management, introducing the rescoped CBHMIS approach, and aligning stakeholders on key program activities.

Community Stakeholders Unite To boost PHC System In Pantami Ward

Gombe PHC Governing Council Holds 4th Quarter Board Meeting... Reviews 2025 Activities.

The Governing Council of the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) today, Wednesday, 24 Dec. 2025, held its 4th Quarter Board Meeting at the Agency’s Data Control Room.

The meeting focused on a comprehensive review of the State Primary Healthcare Agency’s activities for the 2025 operational year, while also considering strategic plans and priorities for 2026.

Members reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration between the Agency’s management, the Gombe State Govt, and the Governing Council to advance the Agency’s mandate and achieve its strategic objectives.

The session was chaired by the Governing Council Chairman, Dr. Ya’u Ahmed Kashere, with Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu, the Executive Secretary of the Agency serving as Council Secretary.

Proceedings commenced with the review and formal adoption of the minutes from the 3rd Quarter Board Meeting, followed by presentations on key updates and the status of action points from previous deliberations.

Council members also reviewed specially, the feedback from a 10-day monitoring tour conducted two months earlier, during which 170 health facilities across the state were visited.

The tour, which combined Integrated Supportive Supervision with the administration of a facility revitalisation checklist, also provided an opportunity to strengthen engagement and collaboration with host communities.

The meeting was adjourned with an agreement to reconvene in three months, as the Council continues preparations toward the Agency’s long-term goals ahead of 2026.

Gombe State Shines Nationally, Ranked Second Best in Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control

Gombe State has been ranked the second best performing state nationwide in the Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Programme following a three-day Annual Review Meeting it hosted.

The award was presented to the Ministry of Health by the National Tuberculosis leprosy and Bruli Ulcer Control Program under Federal Ministry of Health in recognition of strong leadership, effective coordination, and strategic programme management.

The achievement was credited to improved case detection, quality data reporting, and the dedication of the TB and Leprosy Control Programme team, led by Pharmacist Ali A. Adamu, with support from key agency directors.

Gombe State & UNFPA Reiterate Commitment To Deeper Partnership At CIFF Commodity Handover...

The Gombe State Government and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening health sector collaboration during the handover of child spacing commodities donated through the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) at the Central Medical Store in Gombe.

The event brought together key government officials, development partners, and traditional leaders, highlighting the importance of partnerships in improving maternal and child health.

State officials assured partners of proper distribution and effective use of the donated commodities, while UNFPA explained that the 18-month UNFPA–CIFF initiative aims to improve child spacing commodity availability in seven states, including Gombe.

The donated supplies - 79,293 doses of Sayana Press and 22,519 units of Implanon NXT - are expected to enhance reproductive health services, reduce unmet child spacing needs, and support better health outcomes for families across the state.

GSPHCDA Executive Secretary Hosts Technical Engagement to Strengthen PHC Leadership and Service Delivery

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuaibu, hosted a one-day Technical Engagement Session with the 114 PHCC Facility Officers-in-Charge. The meeting, held at Layla Hotel, was aimed at strengthening facility leadership, governance, and service delivery performance.

The session was fully attended by key stakeholders, including the Executive Secretaries of the Gombe State Health Contributory Management Agency (GoHealth), Gombe State Drugs Management Agency (GODMA), and Gombe State Drugs and Medical Supplies Company Limited (GoPharma). The engagement was facilitated by the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF).

In his presentation focused on the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF), the Executive Secretary of GoPharma, Rabiu Yakubu, provided an overview of the 2025 procurement performance. He highlighted GoPharma’s core roles, established strategies, and efforts to strengthen partnerships on the supply side while building confidence in demand management.

Similarly, GoHealth, through its Monitoring and Supervision Officer, Garba Saleh, presented updates on 2025 capitation payments, BHCPF 2.0, Integrated Supportive Supervision (ISS), and identified gaps requiring attention.

State Health Agency and UNICEF Pay Advocacy Visit to Emir of Deba Ahead of DC 2025 SIPDs

Ahead of the December 2025 State Immunization Plus Days (SIPDs), the Health Education Unit of the State Primary Healthcare Agency, together with the UNICEF team, paid an advocacy visit earlier today to the Emir of Deba, HRH Alhaji Ahmad Usman.

The visit was aimed at appreciating the vital roles traditional leaders play at the grassroots level, particularly in community awareness and mobilization efforts that enhance public acceptance of health interventions.

The meeting, held at the Emir’s palace, also provided an opportunity for the state team, alongside UNICEF’s State Behavioural Change Specialists, to brief the Royal Father on zero-dose settlements identified within his domain.

GSPHCDA Holds Multi-Sectoral Engagement to Boost Community Readiness for December SIPDs

The Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency (GSPHCDA) held a three-day series of orientation sessions in preparation for the December State Immunisation Plus Days (SIPDs). On day one, the Agency engaged the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), Faith-Based Organizations (FBOs), and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).

Day two brought together media personnel, digital ambassadors and influencers. The final session on day three involved the LGA teams, including Health Education officers and Assistants, LGA Immunization Officers, Maternal and Child Health Officers, and Community Engagement Focal Persons. Each session focused on clarifying the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders to ensure the success of the SIPDs.

In their separate remarks across the sessions, the State Education Officer, the State Immunisation Officer, and representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO), UNICEF, and the Clinton Health Initiative (CHAI) outlined the objectives of the meetings. They emphasized the critical importance of awareness creation and community acceptance particularly within schools and local communities as foundational pillars for strengthening primary health care and improving immunization uptake.

Across the three days, the State Epidemiologist, Dr. Bile Nuhu Cham, delivered presentations on Adverse Events Following Immunization (AEFI), highlighting the essential role of stakeholder involvement in achieving health outcomes, especially those affecting women and children. The sessions provided participants with a platform for discussion and underscored the strategic contributions of CSOs to the immunization process.

On the first day, the Executive Secretary of the GSPHCDA, Dr. Abdulrahman Shuai’bu, represented by the Director of Community and Family Health, welcomed participants and expressed appreciation for their continued collaboration and support in immunization planning and implementation. He emphasized the need for sustained education and enlightenment efforts at the grassroots level.
