One Decision. One Act of Kindness. Millions of Lives Protected.

James Harrison, the legendary “Man with the Golden Arm,” spent over 60 years donating plasma. His rare antibodies went on to protect more than 2.4 million babies worldwide, proof that one person’s quiet, consistent kindness can change the world.

In Nigeria, The National Blood Service Agency needs heroes like you. Every year, 2 million units of blood are needed for emergencies, surgeries, safe motherhood, accident victims, and treatments for sickle cell, but we collect only 500,000 units. That is a gap putting families at risk every single day.

Your blood has the power to save lives. Voluntary unpaid donations are the safest and most reliable way to build a strong national blood supply. Each unit you give fuels hope, preserves life, and strengthens healthcare across the country.

You may never meet the people you save, but your donation leaves a lasting mark of hope and healing.

Step up. Be a hero. Donate blood with NBSA today.

NBSA Launches 2026 With a Bold Life-Saving Call: Make Blood Donation a Personal Resolution

The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) has set the tone for 2026 with a powerful, life-saving initiative, kicking off the new year with a blood donation drive held on Saturday 3rd January 2026, at Millennium Park, Abuja.

Designed to inspire action beyond words, the drive carried a clear and compelling message to Nigerians: make blood donation a New Year resolution. Under the theme “Donate Blood Three Times This Year,” NBSA urged citizens to commit to donating blood at least three times in 2026, a simple yet impactful pledge that can help sustain a reliable supply of safe blood and save thousands of lives nationwide.

Throughout the event, NBSA officials actively engaged with visitors at the park, providing education on the importance of regular voluntary blood donation and dispelling common myths surrounding the process. Participants were reminded that a single donation can mean the difference between life and death for accident victims, pregnant women with complications, children with severe anaemia, and patients undergoing major surgeries.

This initiative underscores NBSA’s unwavering commitment to addressing blood shortages in Nigeria and strengthening the national blood supply system through voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation. By encouraging consistency rather than one-off donations, the Agency aims to build a culture where blood donation becomes a routine civic responsibility and a shared national value.

As the year begins, NBSA is calling on individuals, families, corporate organizations, and communities across the country to join this noble cause and make lifesaving a personal goal in 2026. Together, through collective action and compassion, we can ensure that no life is lost due to the unavailability of blood.

Donate blood. Save lives. Make it a resolution.

As the festive season approaches, blood donations across the country often reduce—right when hospitals and emergency services need them the most.

While we decorate our homes and exchange presents, it’s important to remember that many patients are depending on the kindness of voluntary blood donors to stay alive.

This December, the most meaningful gift isn’t wrapped or placed under a tree. It’s the safe blood that flows from one person to another—your donation could be the answered prayer someone has been waiting for.

Join the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) in keeping the national blood supply steady throughout the holidays.
Send us a message today to learn how and where you can donate.

Let’s ensure no patient is left without hope this season. ❤️🩸

NBSA and U.S. Embassy Launch Blood Donation Drive to Mark 2025 National Blood Donor Day

The National Blood Service Agency (NBSA), in partnership with the Embassy of the United States, has launched a landmark blood donation initiative in celebration of this year’s National Blood Donor Day.

The campaign, under the theme “From Headlines to Lifelines: Media Advocacy for Voluntary Blood Donation,” highlights the critical role of the media in translating awareness about blood shortages into life-saving action. The drive is designed to inspire more Nigerians to become voluntary blood donors and help close the persistent gap in the nation’s blood supply.

U.S. diplomat Mr. Pius Sunday emphasized the importance of increasing voluntary blood donation in addressing preventable deaths, particularly among pregnant women and accident victims. He highlighted that the collaboration aims not only to collect blood but also to strengthen technical and community systems to ensure safe blood is available when it is needed.

NBSA encourages all eligible Nigerians to visit designated blood donation centers. Each donation is more than a medical contribution; it represents a vital lifeline for a mother in labor, a child battling anemia, or an accident victim awaiting emergency care.

In a renewed push to strengthen emergency preparedness, the National Blood Service Agency (NBSA) partnered with the Aisha Abba Abdullah Memorial Foundation (3AM) and the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters (NPF HQ) to hold a blood donation drive at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, 10th December 2025. The event attracted a strong turnout from officers eager to contribute to national health and lifesaving efforts.

In her welcome address, the Director and Head of Medical at the Force Headquarters, AIG Dr. Nkechi Eze, emphasized the critical need for safe blood in policing, noting that officers often arrive first at road crashes, violent incidents, and medical emergencies.

NBSA officials highlighted the importance of engaging frontline institutions to build a responsive national blood reserve and praised the officers’ enthusiasm. The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to expanding voluntary blood donation beyond traditional spaces such as schools and workplaces.

For 3AM Foundation, the collaboration aligns with its mission to support charitable initiatives that improve community health. Foundation representatives expressed gratitude to the Force Headquarters for mobilizing officers and creating an enabling environment for the drive.

Throughout the exercise, officers from various departments donated blood, many expressing a renewed sense of purpose knowing their contributions could save lives.

The activity marks another milestone in NBSA’s efforts to strengthen safe blood availability nationwide, with the Agency encouraging more institutions to champion voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.
