WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT SNAKE BITE 🐍
A snake bite can happen anywhere; in the bush, in your farm or even near your home. The picture below shows the telltale signs “two small fang marks”, often with redness and swelling around the area.
Snake bites can be dangerous and even life-threatening, depending on the type of snake and how quickly help is received.
COMMON SIGNS OF A SNAKE BITE:
➡️ Two small puncture wounds (fang marks)
➡️ Pain and swelling around the bite
➡️ Nausea, vomiting or dizziness
➡️ Difficulty breathing or blurred vision
➡️ Weakness, sweating or numbness
If you notice these signs, seek medical help immediately
THIS IS WHAT TO DO IMMEDIATELY:
1. Stay calm — panic makes your heart beat faster, spreading the venom quickly.
2. Keep the bitten limb still and below heart level.
3. Do NOT try to suck out the venom or cut the bite.
4. Remove tight clothing or jewelry around the bite before swelling starts.
5. Get to the hospital fast - Antivenom and professional care save lives.
HOW TO PREVENT SNAKE BITES:
✅ Wear boots and long trousers when walking in grassy or bushy areas.
✅ Use a flashlight at night when walking outdoors.
✅ Avoid putting hands or feet into holes, tall grass or under rocks.
✅ Don’t try to handle or kill snakes — move away calmly.
✅ Keep your surroundings clean to reduce hiding spots.
Note: Every snake bite should be treated as an emergency, even if you’re not sure the snake was venomous. Quick action can make all the difference.
Stay alert, stay safe and stay protected.
