During COVID-19, everyone was stuck at home.

Shops were closed, money was tight, and many families went hungry, including Mama Jane and her two children.

Some days they ate; other days they just hoped for a miracle.

One afternoon, a neighbor complained: she wished she could get fresh vegetables that evening.

That's when Mama Jane remembered her little backyard garden, planted months ago with Efo Tete, Ewedu, and Shoko.

She and her children had been eating from it whenever they could.

Now, she sold some to the neighbor and collected her first small earnings.

Her daughter Janet suggested telling others in the neighborhood, maybe they'll also buy.

Soon, Mama Jane was selling more vegetables, earning money, and was able to buy enough food.

She planted the remaining seeds, cooked meals, and they slept full and happy that night.

Urban farming isn't just for fun, it's food, income, and security, all at your doorstep.

SENNA ALATA(Cassia Alata)

Senna Alata, also known as Cassia Alata or the Candle Bush, is a powerful medicinal plant valued for its antibacterial, antifungal, laxative, purgative, and detoxifying properties.

Traditionally, it’s used to treat typhoid, diabetes, malaria, asthma, ringworm, tinea infections, scabies, blotches, herpes, and eczema.

■ LEAVES:

• Natural laxative — relieves constipation and purifies the blood.

• Decoction of leaves helps with biliousness, hypertension, and typhoid.

• Used for piles (hemorrhoids) and skin diseases.

• Can be applied as tincture, poultice, ointment, or powder.

• Sap or paste is applied directly to cure ringworm, scabies, and fungal infections.

■ BARK:
Used to treat skin diseases, diarrhea, worms, parasitic infections, scabies, and eczema.

■ ROOT:

• Mildly laxative — infusion helps with diarrhea, uterine issues, bloating, and spleen problems.

• Topical use helps heal sores and skin fungi.

■ FLOWERS & SEEDS:

• Both are laxative and anthelmintic (expel worms).

• Infusions of the flowers help with stomach and spleen problems.

• Cooked seeds are used as a remedy for intestinal worms.

HOW TO MAKE SENNA ALATA TEA For GENERAL HEALTH OR DETOX

■ Use 2–3 grams of fresh or dried leaves per cup of water.

■ Boil water and steep the leaves for 10–15 minutes.

■ Optional: add cloves or cinnamon while steeping.

■ Strain and add natural sweetener (optional).

■ Allow to cool slightly and enjoy!

Drink once every few days, not daily

FOR CONSTIPATION:

minutes.

● Strain and drink ½ cup once a day (best at

Last week in Abeokuta, I trained a church group on urban agriculture—covering planting and crop management. 🌱
When we got to the topic of controlling termites without chemicals, someone in the class mentioned using locust beans water. Interestingly, many of the women also agreed that water from locust beans can kill or drive away termites and soldier ants.
I’m curious—is this true in your experience?
Have you ever used locust beans water to control termites or ants?
Please share your experience. 😊

Not every food you eat has to come from the market.

Sometimes we forget this simple truth.

Before supermarkets and crowded markets became our only option, many homes had small gardens where food was grown right beside the house.

A few vegetables here.
Some herbs there.

Maybe a plant used for natural tea or traditional remedies.

It wasn’t always a big farm, just a small space used wisely.

And the good news is that it’s still possible today. Even if you live in the city, you can grow food in:

• Small gardens
• Containers
• Sacks or grow bags
• Backyard spaces

Starting small is perfectly fine. What matters is starting.

One of the easiest ways to begin is by planting healthy seedlings instead of waiting weeks for seeds to germinate.

It saves time and gives your garden a stronger start.

If you’ve been thinking about growing some of your own food, this might be the right time to begin.

When will you stop complaining about food prices? 🤔

I have been saying it for a while now.
Food prices will keep rising.

But there is something many people can still control — growing some of their own food.

You don’t need a big farm.

A small backyard, a few containers, or even a small garden space can produce things like:

• Vegetables
• Herbs
• Natural teas
• Fresh ingredients for your kitchen

Many people think farming is difficult, but the easiest way to start is with healthy seedlings and ready-to-grow plants.

They save time, reduce stress, and help you start harvesting faster.

So let me remind you again in case you forgot:

Growing even a small part of your food can make a big difference.

We currently have healthy seedlings available to help you start your garden easily.

Send us a message to get yours today.

When Plants Stop Thriving, Check the Soil

In this video, the plants were uprooted for one simple reason: the soil is exhausted.

Plants feed on soil nutrients. After some time, the soil can become tired and depleted, and the plants will begin to show signs.

Some common signs include:
• Slow or stunted growth
• Yellowing leaves
• Smaller harvests
• Plants that look weak even with watering

What can you do when this happens?

• Carefully uproot the plants.
• Remove the old soil or loosen it well.
• Add fresh soil mixed with compost or organic manure.
• Replant healthy seedlings or the strongest plants.

Refreshing the soil restores nutrients, structure, and life back into the growing space.

Sometimes, it’s not always the plant that is the problem…
Sometimes the soil simply needs renewal.
