I looked at him and nodded slowly.

The Woman who usually go to the Mortuary to get Dead people’s meat finally confessed why she took such step in life.

Mama Patricia sat on the cold floor of the police station, her eyes looking at nothing. The Inspector leaned forward, "Speak now! Why did you do this abomination?"

Patricia looked up, her voice steady and cold. "Four years ago, you all took everything from me. My husband was a good man, but he had a big mouth. He insulted the Chairman of this Community during the meeting. Because of that, the youth and the leaders rose up against him."

She paused, a tear finally falling from her eye. "They kiIIIed my husband. They did not just kiIII him, they piecēs his body like he was an animal and sent to the Mortuary. Nobody was arrested. Nobody cared about my tears. So, I decided that since the community made my husband meat, I would make the community eat meat as well. I felt that’s the way to punish the community."

"But Patricia, what about Elizabeth?" Aunt Mendy cried out. "She was just a young girl! She wasn't there when your husband died!"
"Elizabeth saw me at the mortuary gate," Patricia replied with a shrug.

"She was following me too much. She saw where I was cutting the flesh. I couldn't let her talk. Once you start this business, your heart becomes hard."

She has also kiIIIed some number of people, and used their flesh to sell, her heart was completely sold out in evil.

"Is that why the meat was so cheap?" Lily asked, her voice full of disgust. "You wanted everyone to buy it? You wanted everyone to be part of your madness?"

"Yes," Patricia laughed. "And you all ate it. You loved it. You said it was 'sweet.' You were all eating the same people you walk with on the street every day."

The police did not want to hear any more of her stories. They handcuffed her tightly and led her away to the cell.

"Whatever the community did to your husband was wrong," the Inspector said, "but what you did is a crime against God and man. You are a monster."

She was eventually charged to court for the Murder of Elizabeth and for her other secret crimes. The community was never the same again. Many people moved away, and those of us who stayed could no longer look at a piece of meat without feeling like vomiting.

I NEVER KNEW THE CHILD I RAISED WAS NOT MINE

EPISODE 1:

That day started like every normal day.

Nothing felt strange.
Nothing felt wrong.

If I had known…
I would have stopped him from leaving the house.

“Mom, I’m going out,” Chinedu said, rushing his food.

“Where?” I asked.
“Just to see my friend. I’ll be back soon.”

I looked at him carefully.
“You better not go far.”
He smiled.

That same smile I had known for 15 years.
The same boy I carried.

Raised.

Loved with everything in me.

“I won’t, Mom.”

Those were the last normal words I heard from him.

Two hours later…
My phone rang.

Unknown number.

I almost didn’t pick it.
But something pushed me.

“Hello?”

“Madam… do you know a boy named Chinedu?”

My heart skipped.
“Yes… he’s my son.”

There was a pause.

Then the voice said,
“He had an accident.”
My world stopped.

When I got to the hospital…
I couldn’t breathe properly.

People were running up and down.

Doctors shouting.
Stretchers moving.

“Where is my son?!” I cried.
They took me to the emergency room.

And when I saw him…
My legs almost gave way.

Blood.

Bandages.

Machines.

My Chinedu…
Was lying there… lifeless.
“Doctor! Please save him!” I cried.

The doctor looked at me.
Serious.
Focused.

“We are trying, madam. But we need blood urgently.”

“Take mine!” I shouted immediately.
“I’m his mother! Take anything!”

They nodded and rushed me away for testing.

I was shaking.
Praying.
Crying.

“God… please… don’t take my son…”

Minutes later…
The doctor came back.
But his face…
Something was wrong.

“Madam…” he said slowly.
“Are you sure… you are the biological mother of this boy?”
I blinked.

“What kind of question is that?”

He didn’t smile.
“We tested your blood.”

Silence.

Then he said the words that destroyed everything I believed:

“Your blood is not compatible.”
I laughed nervously.

“That’s not possible. He is my son.”
The doctor shook his head.

“No, madam…”
Then he said it clearly.

Mama Patricia’s Cup is filled up!, They said she has been going to Mortuaries to get Dead people’s bodies to sell to us in our Street.

This is has been happening for over 4 years, but finally, her Day of Reckoning has come— this Evil woman kiIIIed Elizabeth, one of the Spies that my Aunt sent to be monitoring her.

They took Mama Patricia and that Sack Where she has placed Elizabeth dead body, to the Police station. The whole street was in an uproar. People were shouting, "KiIIIer! Eater of humans!" but Patricia just kept her head down, her face cold and hard.

We went there immediately, with the remaining two guys who were also the spies sent, Henry and Godspower. My Aunt Mendy and Lily were crying as we entered the station. The smell of the place was heavy, but all I could think about was the meat I had eaten from her hand.

As we got to the police station, They asked Mama Patricia whether she recognizes us; she said No— she just looked at us like we were total strangers she had never seen before.
I was shocked. I stepped forward, my voice shaking with anger and fear.

“Mama Patricia, you don’t know me, Joshua??!! Me that have been your customer since 4 years?… so you have been selling dead people’s meat for us, you don’t even care about our health?”

She looked up at me then, a slow, wicked smile spreading across her face.

“I just wish you all die from that meat," she said, her voice like a serpent's hiss. "Just so sad that it didn’t kiIII everyone. As for Elizabeth, I kiIIIed her because she thinks she’s too smart, Poke nosing into my matter, me of all people. She foIIowed me to my secret place, and she paid for it."

Lily screamed and tried to jump at her, but the officers held her back. "You monster! You killed a young girl just to hide your secret!"

The police slapped her mouth so hard that her head snapped to the side. The Inspector stood over her, his eyes full of disgust.

“Explain why you entered into this useless devilish business," the Inspector barked, slamming his hand on the table. "Tell us why you are feeding your fellow humans with corpses!"

Patricia wiped a bit of blood from her lip and laughed.

”Of course, whether you ask me or not… I’ll explain," she said, looking around the room at all of us.

"Then you’ll know whether it’s my fault or not!”

We went to The House of the woman who allegedly goes to the Mortuary to get Dead people’s body as Meats to sell, But they said she wasn’t around, and that she left her house so early, 5:30am.

Elizabeth is missing!!, Elizabeth is one of the Spies that my Aunt and her friend Sent to be spying at the Mama Patricia, because we were suspecting that her Meats aren’t pure— she said it was gotten from Cow, but It’s definitely not tasting like one.

The police are already involved, they have started tracking her movement, and they informed us that they’ll do their job. Aunt Mendy and Lily have been staying with me, unable to sleep or eat properly.

"I can't believe this is happening in our street," Aunt Mendy said, pacing around the sitting room. "If that woman has touched Elizabeth, I will never forgive myself for sending her."

Lily haven’t gone back to her House, for over 6 days now, they have been in my House. "We have to stay together until the police find her," Lily said, her eyes red from crying. "Something is very wrong. The way Patricia vanished was too fast."

We were watching TV that evening, and still discussing about Elizabeth’s sudden disappearance, when the news on the TV popped up. The reporter looked very serious, standing in front of a noisy crowd.

"Wait, quiet everyone! Turn up the volume!" I shouted, grabbing the remote.
"Breaking news," the reporter started. "A Woman was caught carrying a bag of Human head in a Customized Sack. People gathered and were Interviewing her, the police were there."

The camera zoomed in on a woman sitting on the ground, surrounded by angry people and officers. Her clothes were stained with dark spots, and she was looking at the camera with a cold, empty stare.

We checked the Woman closely— it was MAMA PATRICIA, the woman we have been suspecting all this while!!!, the woman selling those meat.

"Oh my God! That is her! That is the meat seller!" Lily screamed, covering her mouth.
"Look at the sack... it's the same one the neighbor described," I whispered,

On the screen, a policeman held up a microphone to Patricia’s face. He was pointing at the sack that had been opened. "Where did you get this? Who did you kiIII?" the officer barked.

The street was silent as we waited for her to speak. Mama Patricia didn't look afraid. She actually looked like she was about to smile.

Then they asked her what’s the name of the person you beheãded, she said it was ELIZABETH.

My Aunt sent Three spies to check Whether this Woman goes to the Mortuary to bring her Meats to sell, but guess what?, One of the Spies was missing.

God’spower, Henry and Elizabeth were paid by Lily and my Aunt to track whether This Mama Patricia goes to the Mortuary to bring her strange cheap meats to sell to the Street, because currently we were looking for Evidence, but now, we can’t find Elizabeth.

Things became very rough in the morning when Elizabeth’s brother, a tall and aggressive man named Samson, came to my house. He was breathing heavily.

“Y’all should fetch my sister for me o!!” he screamed, pointing his finger at Aunt Mendy. "I told her not to follow you people for this nonsense investigation! Now she is nowhere to be found!"

"Samson, please calm down," Lily begged him. "We are doing everything we can. Godspower and Henry are already out looking for her."

"If anything happens to Elizabeth, I will burn down this street! You people sent her to a dangerous place and now you are telling me to calm down?" Samson was shouting so loud that neighbors started coming out.

Even the mama Patricia opened that day o, it’s just as if she might not be involved in this strange Disappearance of Elizabeth. She was just there at her stall, smiling and selling her meat as if everything was normal. I watched her from the window.

At this point, We realized that the matter is beyond us, so we involved the police immediately. Aunt Mendy and Lily went to the station to report that a girl was missing and that they suspected the meat seller.
"Officer, please, we think this woman is doing something evil," Aunt Mendy told the sergeant at the desk.

"Do you have proof? Did you see her carry the girl?" the officer asked, writing slowly in a big book.
"We don't have proof yet, but the girl was following her and now she is gone!" Lily explained, her voice shaking.

The next day, the atmosphere was very tense. The police stormed her usual shop Where she do display her Meats, but she didn’t open today…

The wooden table was empty. No meat, no flies, just the dry blood from yesterday’s sales. The police didn't stop there; they went to her House, she wasn’t even there at all. The door was locked from the outside.

We asked the neighbor beside her,

”Ohh I see Mama Patricia as she dey comot this Morning," the neighbor said, adjusting her wrapper. "But I was praying when I saw her leave, so I could not talk to her. I have no single idea Where she’s going to.”

“Like what time did she leave this house?” the police inspector asked, looking at his watch.
”Almost 5:30am," the woman replied. "She was carrying a very big sack on her head, and she was walking very fast, like person way dey run from something."

We all stood in front of Patricia’s locked door. The air around the house smelled like old meat and chemicals.

We decided that we’re going to investigate that Woman who sells Meat in our street, because rumors are saying that, those Meat were gotten from Dead people’s body in the Mortuary.

Lily, my Aunt’s friend alongside with Aunty Mendy have decided to start a secret Investigation, because there’s this Case earlier on that A particular dead body was missing, and They caught Mama Patricia entering that Mortuary, so for now it was still assumption.

I was totally angry with Myself, I said within myself, “God please let it not be that I’ve been eating Poison for years, no wonder some times, I do have some Sickness and all.”
"Joshua, stop blaming yourself," Aunt Mendy said, seeing how I was rubbing my stomach.

"We didn't know. That woman is just too wicked for doing this to innocent people."

Aunty Lily informed some guys about her mission, and promised to give them some cash. She didn't want us to go ourselves so that Patricia would not recognize us.

"Listen," Lily told the group she hired. "We need to know where she goes at 2:00 AM. Don't let her see you, just follow her from a distance."

They started keeping an eye on That Mama Patricia. They were Three sent to spy the Woman, two men and one female. The men were Godspower and Henry, and the lady was Elizabeth.

That night, they all scattered round each sector of the street, waiting for Mama Patricia to pass. The air was cold and everywhere was very dark.

"I am at the junction," Henry whispered into his phone. "No sign of her yet."

"I am behind her house," Elizabeth replied. "The lights are off. I think she is coming out soon."

But hours passed. No one saw her. They couldn’t identify whether she came that Night or not. It was like the woman had turned into spirit and disappeared from her room.

The next morning, the sun was bright, but the mood in my house was very heavy. Those spies came back to inform Lily that maybe this evening, they’ll expand their Search Patrol. But there was a bigger problem.

They couldn’t find the lady, Elizabeth.
"Wait, what do you mean she is not with you?" Lily asked, standing up from her chair in shock.

“Where did she go to? I thought we all went together to track that Patricia?” The two men, Godspower and Henry said. They looked very confused and scared.

"She was behind the house!" Henry explained.

"This is not good," Aunt Mendy said, her hands shaking. "Elizabeth is a very serious girl. She wouldn't just leave her work."

They called her number, she wasn’t picking. The phone would ring and ring, then go to voicemail.

"Let me try again," Godspower said, sweating even though the fan was on. "Elizabeth! Pick up the phone now!"

But there was no answer. Only the sound of the dial tone. My heart started beating fast. I looked at the street where Patricia was already setting up her meat stall, smiling as if nothing happened.

There is this popular woman that have been selling meat in our Street for years, but she’s about to be exposed!— all her meat are gotten from Dead people’s body in the Mortuary.

My Aunt that came from Abroad specifically told me that night that I should stop each that Meat, that they’ll undergo an Investigation because the meat doesn’t taste like Cow’s own.

I was really shocked and refused to believe when Aunt Mendy was telling me that, her friend is saying the meat tastes like Human’s.

"But Auntie, that is a very big thing to say," I argued, my voice shaking. "Has she tasted a human flesh before? How can she be so sure?"

"Joshua, Lily is a nurse. She has seen things, she has smelled things in the hospital that you wouldn't understand. Just trust me and stop eating it," Mendy replied, her face very serious.

For the remaining two days, I didn’t buy any meat. I was just totally confused. I stayed in my house, looking at my empty pot of soup. I was actually praying to God that it should not be a human flesh we have been eating for years. I kept thinking about how many times I licked my fingers because Patricia’s meat was "so sweet."

Aunt Mendy came back to my house with her friend Lily. They looked like they had been talking for hours. They sat down in my bright sitting room and started asking me Questions.

"Joshua, sit down," Lily said, opening her handbag to bring out a notebook. "Actually, some women have been suspecting that Madam Patricia who sells that meat. She’s a very Evil woman who can go any length to sell her market."

I shook my head and stood up. “Aunty Mendy, don’t mind all those women. You should know that they’re talking out of Jealousy just because Patricia has driven them out of Meat business in this Community. Her price is just better!”

“Joshua, it’s not about Jealousy! It’s about your health we’re talking about," Lily shouted, hitting the table. "Listen, do you remember the trending news then of that Chief Jacob’s body that was missing in that Mortuary? That they couldn’t find his body even for the burial?”

I paused. I remembered that news. It was a big scandal two years ago. “Okay?… What’s about it?”

“Rumors were saying that, the day Patricia was spotted in that Mortuary, that was when the body eventually disappeared the next Early Morning," Lily whispered, leaning in.

"Something that had never happened before. The Mortuary almost closed because of that. I wonder why it’s still functioning today.”

I stared at Lily, feeling a cold sweat on my forehead. “But Lily, how did you know all of these? You’re not living in this Street. I mean, who’s feeding you with this all information?”

“Have you forgotten I have so many Cousins here? Don't you know them? They tell me everything," Lily replied. "I didn’t even know that the woman sells meat to the whole street! I mean, that same woman from the mortuary scandal!”

Aunt Mendy looked at the meat I had kept in the fridge and felt like vomiting. “So Lily, what are we going to do? We really need to stop that Woman completely ooo. This is a big abomination!”

Lily stood up and looked out of the window toward the street where Patricia’s stall was.
“We can’t just go to the street and tell people that her meat are Deadly," Lily said firmly.

"They will think we are just lying or jealous because she is popular. We need to catch her red handed! …

And we must move fast in this!
