Dr. Tinuade Ogunlesi' advice on Sallah meat
If you are 40 and above, bikonu leave sallah meat for the younger ones. Sallah meat na red meat. Red meat is not good for people above 40. This meat on its own generates bad cholesterol and the cholesterol load is increased by the way we fry the meat in vegetable oil. There are two types of cholesterol: the good and the bad. The good one is protective while the bad one is destructive.
Bad cholesterol clogs the major pipes carrying blood to the various parts of the body with increasing age. This clogging reduces the space available inside the pipes, thereby technically reducing the rate at which blood circulates to the major body organs. Bad cholesterol also damages the bodies of the pipes making them hard and easily breakable instead of being soft and distensible. Therefore, high level of bad cholesterol in the blood can damage body organs leading to heart attack, kidney disease and stroke among other wahala.
White meat is a lot more preferred to red meat. Poultry products (without the skin) and fish to the rescue. If you must take red meat, grill or air-fry rather than deep-fry. Even, poultry products and fish are better grilled or air-fried.
While the Sallah merriment lasts, bikonu take precautions about the load of red meat you take.
