We join the global health community and UICC - Union for International Cancer Control to mark the with an advocacy for equity in access to cancer care; a disease which is the 2nd leading cause of death globally.

The wide inequity gap in accessing cancer care contributes to the high prevalence of the disease in low and middle income countries; as well as its high mortality rate in this region. Furthermore, out of the 10 million lives lost to cancer in 2020, 70% of them were living in low and middle countries due to lack of access to adequately equipped healthcare facilities for effective cancer management.

We therefore call on everyone, everywhere to join this advocacy to give people living with cancer a chance to win the fight against the disease.

Read our infographics for more information on this advocacy.

The World Cancer Day 2023 shall be marked on 4 February, and we shall be raising health literacy awareness on cancer this week.

Cancer is the abnormal growth of some body cells which have the capacity to spread massively from one part of the body to another in an uncontrollable fashion; thus causing severe damage to the body's organs and tissues.

This disease is the 2nd leading cause of death globally. Unfortunately, majority (70%) of the deaths from this disease occurs in low and middle income countries such as Sub-Saharan Africa due to the lack of access to qualitative cancer care. It is therefore important that the cancer care gap be closed to achieve global health equity.
