Omega-3 vs Omega-3-6-9
I remember one day at the pharmacy, a man stood there for almost 10 minutes, just staring at two products on the shelf.
He picked one up, dropped it. Picked the other, and shook his head.
Then he turned to me and said,
“Abeg, which one is even better? Omega-3 or Omega 3-6-9? These people just want to confuse us.” 😅
I smiled because honestly, a lot of people are in that same spot.
So I told him a simple story.
I said, “Imagine your body is like a house.”
Now, in that house, you already have plenty of cooking oil (that’s omega-6) and enough basic supplies (omega-9). In fact, sometimes you even have too much.
But there is one important thing you are running low on, and that is Omega-3.
That is the one that helps your heart stay strong, helps your brain stay sharp, and helps reduce all those internal body stress and inflammation we don’t see.
Then I pointed at the bottles again.
You see this Omega-3 fish oil?” I said, “That one is like bringing exactly what your house is missing.”
“But this Omega 3-6-9 is like buying everything again, including the ones you already have plenty of.”
He paused, looked at both again, then laughed.
"So basically, I don’t need all this extra extra?”
I said, “Exactly.”
He quietly picked the Omega-3 and dropped the other one back on the shelf.
And that is the truth most people don’t realize.
We already get too much omega-6 from everyday foods: fried stuff, vegetable oil, snacks. We don’t really need more of it.
What the body actually needs more of is Omega-3.
So next time you see both on the shelf and you are confused, just remember this simple question:👇
“Am I adding what I need, or just adding everything?”
