2025 DRR Day: Nigerian Red Cross Society Kwara Branch Celebrates 2025 World Disaster Risk Reduction Day

In honor of Disaster Risk Reduction Day, the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) Kwara Branch launched a community initiative under the 2025 theme: "Fund Resilience, Not Disaster."

This important day serves as a reminder of the critical need to prepare and protect our communities from the devastating effects of natural disasters.

To actively engage in this theme, NRCS members and dedicated volunteers gathered to clear and clean the drainage systems along Red Cross Road. This initiative aimed to reduce the likelihood of flooding, which has been a persistent threat in many of our neighborhoods.

- Volunteers rolled up their sleeves to clear out debris and ensure water drainage systems were functioning effectively.
- A remarkable highlight was the participation of Sarafadeen Olalekan, a physically challenged member, who joyfully joined in the clearing of the drainage, embodying the spirit of resilience and community. His enthusiastic involvement inspired everyone present.
- Residents were educated on the importance of maintaining drainage systems and preparing for potential disasters.
- The event featured discussions on the significance of investing in resilience measures, rather than solely focusing on disaster response.

By empowering our community with knowledge and proactive measures, NRCS Kwara Branch is committed to making a lasting impact. We believe that funding resilience is crucial in building a safer future for everyone.

NRCS Begins Post Distribution Monitoring in Flood-Affected Areas of Kwara State.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) has commenced its Post Distribution Monitoring (PDM) process in Kwara State, focusing on three flood-affected communities: Mubo, Amilegbe, and Fangan, across two local government areas, Ilorin East and Moro. This initiative aims to assess the impact and effectiveness of the support provided to beneficiaries by NRCS in collaboration with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Volunteers were deployed to administer questionnaires to beneficiaries using the Kobo Collect tool. This digital data collection method ensures efficient and accurate gathering of information from the beneficiaries regarding the support they received.

To ensure the PDM process is conducted effectively, Assistant Coordinator, Chioma from NRCS National Headquarters Abuja was on the ground to monitor the process. Her presence underscored the organization's commitment to ensuring that the monitoring exercise is carried out to high standards.

The PDM process is designed to collect feedback from beneficiaries on the support provided by NRCS/IFRC. This feedback is crucial for understanding the impact of the assistance, identifying areas of improvement, and informing future programming.

The PDM process will provide valuable insights into how the support provided by NRCS/IFRC has been utilized by the beneficiaries and its overall impact on their lives.

The data collected during the PDM will be instrumental in shaping future interventions by NRCS and its partners, ensuring that they are more targeted and effective. By conducting a thorough PDM, NRCS demonstrates its commitment to accountability and transparency in its operations, ensuring that resources are used efficiently and effectively.

The NRCS's Post Distribution Monitoring process in Kwara State is a critical step in evaluating the effectiveness of its support to flood-affected communities. The insights gained from this exercise will be vital in enhancing future humanitarian responses.
