ACTIVE CASE SEARCH

Our team members from around the state routinely, on weekly basis, set out to their communities to look for cases of tuberculosis infection.

In the process, we educate the members of the community on TB infection, symptoms, transmission and prevention.

We take sputum samples of presumptive cases to test for TB infection.

We also direct them to the nearest facilities to them in any case of suspected TB infection.

The slides are photos taken from the following locations, in respective order

Balogun Alanamu Community, Ilorin West
Balogun Ajikobi Community, Ilorin West
Iyana Mama Community, Moro
MSCC, Mandala
Oloru Learning Centre, Moro
Ipee Community, Oyun
Isapa Community, Irepodun

Counting down to National Tuberculosis Testing Week for Children.

Children are vulnerable groups because of their immature immune system. They are susceptible to tuberculosis and they are a main target group in the course of TB elimination.

Next week 22nd to 26th May, 2023 is dedicated to reaching out to children who might have TB, getting them tested and treated.

TB elimination is a collective effort. Together we can!

On this day in 1882, Robert Koch, a German doctor announced his discovery of the tubercle bacilli to the Berlin physiological society.

It was a ground breaking revelation as this would mean a lot of things - precise diagnosis and treatment, and further research.

Like many other discoveries, Koch's was built on other's discoveries. 2 decades before, tuberculosis was demonstrated to be an infectious disease by Jean Antoine Villemin, a military surgeon in his cadaver-rabbit experiment .

On this day in 1982, a century after the discovery of the tubercle bacilli, March 24th was designated as a day to create awareness on tuberculosis, and world TB day is celebrated ever since.

Despite being curable, tuberculosis is the number one cause of infection in the world.

As part of our activities for the TB week, our team, in collaboration with our partners set out to reach the minority communities in Kwara state.

Our objectives are to educate them about Tuberculosis - impact, burden, and our roles in TB elimination.

We believe that everyone must be involved in this fight against TB and these people are not excluded.

We learned a lot about their culture and their attitude towards health care and we got some new insights that can help us to plan and strategize better to fight against TB.

One of the challenges we faced was language barrier. Kwara State is a very diverse state with different cultures and languages, but we overcome it, as some of our volunteers can seamlessly communicate with them.

Special thanks to , Kwara State Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation, for the support.

You're at risk of TB, but you don't know it.

No, you're not coughing or feeling sick. You don't have any symptoms either.
But you know someone who has.

It is not only nice to advice them to get checked, it's important that you do so.

Because if you don't, it's only a matter of time before you get infected too. Are they your neighbors? Teacher? Friend?

In fact, they don't have to be your acquaintance. If someone you know knows someone who has TB, they could get it and give you.

It's as bad as that.

Fighting against TB isn't just patriotic, it's more.

What's are you doing to contribute to end TB?

Unlike several annual global events, World TB day is NOT a celebration.

24th day of March has been designated every year since 1982 to enlighten the public on the impact and burden of Tuberculosis.

Tuberculosis has wreaked a lot of havoc in the past, and every year, millions of people die worldwide of TB.

This shouldn't be the case, tuberculosis can be detected, diagnosed and in most cases, completely treated.

It's time we all got involved, put our foot down and decide collectively, that tuberculosis must go.

Join us as we move together to drive tuberculosis out from the 20th to 24th of March, 2023.

See schedule in the slides.

Tuberculosis is curable, in most cases.

The cost of diagnosis, treatment and medication is waived in public health facilities in kwara state.

That means you don't pay a dime to get diagnosed and your drugs are given to you for free.

Our partners , , provide support in varying forms and that's how we're able to offer free services and medications.

Access to proper diagnosis and treatment is paramount to eliminate tuberculosis in Nigeria.

You don't have an excuse to not get treated.
