Taraba State Health Services Management Board Commends FMC Jalingo’s Achievements

The Executive Secretary, Taraba State Health Services Management Board (TSHSMB), Dr. Garba Danjuma, has lauded the numerous developmental strides recorded by the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo) under the leadership of Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu.

Speaking during a courtesy visit to the Centre on Friday, 31st October 2025, Dr. Danjuma said the Board looks forward to a stronger partnership with FMC Jalingo in enhancing healthcare delivery through capacity building, human resource collaboration, and improved referral systems.

FMC Jalingo Joins MWAN and NEDC to Raise Awareness on Breast and Cervical Cancer

Every October, the world observes Cancer Awareness Month (Oct 1–31), a global campaign to educate people on the importance of early detection, symptoms, and preventive measures against cancer.

To commemorate this year’s event, the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Taraba State Chapter, in collaboration with the North East Development Commission (NEDC), organized a Breast and Cervical Cancer Awareness Program with the inspiring theme: “Every Story is Unique, Every Journey Matters.”

The awareness campaign began with a vibrant road walk from the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo to the Road House, Jalingo, followed by a free screening exercise and public sensitization session. The event aimed to deepen public understanding of breast and cervical cancer, emphasizing prevention, early detection, and timely management.

The Medical Director, FMC Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, was among the distinguished guests at the event, alongside the Representative of the Commissioner of Women Affairs and Child Development, and the NMA Chairman, Dr. Adamu Kara, among others.

FMC Jalingo Champions Multi-Sector Effort Against Breast Cancer

The Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, has emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders in combating breast cancer in Taraba State.

She made the call during the Taraba Pinktober 2025 Mega Rally and Town Hall Meeting, organized by the Nigeria Cancer Society, Taraba State Chapter, to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event, themed “The Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) Management of Breast Cancer,” highlighted the importance of joint efforts in tackling the disease.

Represented by the Acting Head of Clinical Services, Dr. Suleiman Abubakar Kirim, Dr. Aisha reaffirmed FMC Jalingo’s commitment to the fight against cancer, noting that the hospital serves as a pilot site for the Tele-Oncology Programme, an innovation by Cancer Consciousness Initiative (CCI). She described the initiative as a “rebirth model for health system strengthening” that connects patients to specialized cancer care remotely.

She further commended the Cancer Consciousness Initiative and the Nigeria Cancer Society for their dedication to advocacy, awareness, and patient support. Dr. Aisha urged that the town hall meeting should serve not only as a dialogue platform but as a catalyst for collective action aimed at improving patient outcomes.

Speaking on “Tele-Oncology”, Dr. Hannatu Ayuba Usman, Consultant Oncologist at the Federal Ministry of Health, Abuja, applauded the FMC Jalingo Management for their unrelenting support in the fight against breast cancer. She explained that the Tele-Oncology Hub Programme offers renewed hope and survival opportunities for cancer patients.

The event also featured a panel discussion by medical experts, who stressed the importance of regular screening, early detection, and consistent follow-up visits for cancer patients.

A broad spectrum of stakeholders including health professionals, traditional rulers, and community leaders participated in the town hall meeting, reflecting the collective will to curb the growing threat of breast cancer in Taraba State.

FMC Jalingo Partners with AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical to Enhance Healthcare Delivery

The Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Jalingo has formalized a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) with AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical Company, designed to strengthen drug supply, improve service delivery, and enhance overall patient care.

The Head of the Pharmacy Department, FMC Jalingo, Pharm. Bitrus I. Cheto, described the collaboration as a landmark step in advancing the hospital’s commitment to quality healthcare. He noted that the system has been structured to ensure smooth electronic coordination across service points within the hospital, thereby making drugs more accessible to patients.

On his part, the Managing Director of AA Aliyu Mega Pharmaceutical Company, Pharm. Abubakar Abdullahi, emphasized the company’s commitment to meeting the expectations of the partnership. He assured that effective measures have been put in place to prevent shortages and ensure steady drug availability.

The Medical Director, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, commended the initiative and expressed optimism that the collaboration will provide lasting solutions to drug availability challenges. In her steadfast drive to improve healthcare delivery for the people of Taraba State, the Medical Director Federal Medical Centre Jalingo, Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu has embarked on strategic moves to strengthen partnerships and expand opportunities for the hospital.

As part of this effort, she paid a familiarization and collaborative visit to Ginos Group and Standard Electro-Medical Equipment Company (SEMED), two leading multinational hospital equipment companies in Abuja.

During the visit, high-level discussions were held on possible areas of collaboration aimed at strengthening FMC Jalingo’s capacity, providing modern solutions to healthcare challenges, and ultimately improving service delivery.

57th birthday anniversary: FMC Jalingo felicitates with Health Minister Pate

The Federal Medical Center (FMC) Jalingo has congratulated the coordinating minister of health and social welfare Prof Mohammed Ali Pate on the occasion of his 57th birthday anniversary.

Medical Director of the hospital, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu who made this known in a goodwill message, noted that Professor Pate has been a driving force in shaping Nigeria’s healthcare landscape.

According to her, tributes coming from individuals and organizations in respect to the minister’s birthday acknowledges his tireless efforts and commitment to improving healthcare delivery in the country.

Dr. Aisha said institutions like the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Federal Medical Center Nguru , and Federal Medical Center Birnin Kudu, University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) among others have praised Professor Pate’s leadership, vision, and passion for transforming Nigeria’s health sector.

“Colleagues commend his role in enhancing healthcare infrastructure, addressing maternal and child health challenges, and strengthening health systems”, she added.

The MD Dr Aisha Shehu Adamu stated that Professor Pate’s career reflects dedication to public service and advancing Nigeria’s healthcare goals, with the nation looking forward to his continued impactful leadership.
