Strengthening Access to Essential Medicines in Kaduna State 💊
In our continued effort to ensure the steady availability of quality and affordable medicines across all levels of healthcare, the Kaduna State Health Supplies Management Agency, the Kaduna State Ministry of Health, with support from the Capacity for Sustainable Development (C4SD), Lafiya Project, and Society for Family Health (SFH), successfully conducted a 5-day workshop to validate the Kaduna State Sustainable Health Supply System (iSHSS) operational guidelines for the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) Scheme.
The workshop brought together 60 key participants from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as well as health stakeholders, who reviewed and agreed on updated operational guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the State’s DRF scheme.
The Drug Revolving Fund (DRF) is a vital financing mechanism designed to ensure the continuous availability of essential drugs and medical supplies in health facilities, reducing dependency on irregular donor or government funding.
✅ Key Highlights & Resolutions:
Revitalization and institutionalization of the DRF as Kaduna State’s main system for sustainable medicine supply.
Approval and implementation of validated DRF Guidelines and SOPs.
Strengthening of the In-State DRF Team and continuous capacity building for staff.
Greater collaboration among government, partners, and communities for effective DRF implementation.
With these renewed commitments, Kaduna State is set to build a resilient, transparent, and sustainable health supply system that will enhance access to essential medicines and advance our journey toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
