VISITATION BY THE NATIONAL UNIVERSITIES COMMISSION (NUC) TO FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL KATSINA

Delegates from the National Universities Commission (NUC) alongside members of Management of Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina and Umaru Musa Yar'adua University Katsina (College of Health Sciences) during the Commission's visit to the Hospital on Monday 24th November, 2025.

The visit was to assess the Hospital's preparedness for the training of medical students of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University Katsina (UMYU).

FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL KATSINA, FTHK, MARKS WORLD RADIOGRAPHY DAY.

The Department of Radiology of the Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina FTHK, commemorated World Radiography Day with an awareness program held at the hospital's conference Hall on Thursday, 6th of November, 2025.

The event, held ahead of the global celebration on Saturday, November 8, sought to educate staff and patients on radiation safety principles and steps to be taken to protect against it's effects.

In his keynote address, the acting CMD of FTHK, Dr. Nasir Aliyu congratulated the radiographers and advised them to always comply with radiation safety performance standards for their safety and that of the patients.

The celebration also featured a range of events, including; presentation of goodwill messages from esteemed guests, an awareness walk through the facility, delivery of lectures titled 'Radiology and Global Health: Averting Long Machine Downtime in Nigeria' and 'Radiation safety awareness to staff, patients and Katsina community'', award presentation, among other things.

ACCREDITATION EXERCISE FOR SURGERY DEPARTMENT, FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL, KATSINA (FTHK).

Members of the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (NPMC) with staff of Federal Teaching Hospital Katsina FTHK, during the accreditation exercise of Surgery Department of the Hospital held from Monday 27th to Tuesday 28th of October, 2025.

The team was received by acting Chief Medical Director (aCMD) FTHK, Dr. Nasir Aliyu, the acting Chairman Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Muttaka Maude, and the Director Administration, Haruna Ahmed Zambuk accompanied by other staff of the Hospital.

Led by Prof. Emmanuel A. Eletta, the team toured the facility to assess the department’s readiness and level compliance with standards required for accreditation.

COURTESY VISIT BY ANAESTHESIA DEPARTMENT AND INTENSIVE CARE MEDICINE IN COMMEMORATION OF WORLD ANAESTHESIA DAY TO THE MANAGEMENT OF FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL, KATSINA (FTHK)

Staff of the Department of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care Medicine FTHK during a courtesy visit to the Management of the hospital as part of events to mark the 2025 World Anaesthesia Day held on the 16th of October 2025 at the FTHK Board Room.

The staff were received by the Acting Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Nasir Aliyu, who was represented by acting CMAC, Dr. Muttaka Maude, Director of Administration, Haruna Ahmed Zambuk and other management staff.

While commending the management for its unwaivering support, the acting HOD of the Department Hamza Aliyu pointed out that shortage of manpower remains a major challenge inhibiting their operations calling for urgent intervention to ensure seamless service delivery.

Under the theme: 'Anaesthesiology in health emergencies' the team conducted some hands-on trainings on how to assess a patient’s airway, position them correctly, perform Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and administer oxygen using bag-valve mask in the Labour ward, Emergency Pediatrics Unit,EPU, as well as the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital.

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RESIDENT DOCTORS (NARD) 45TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM) AND SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE PRESS BRIEFING HELD IN KATSINA STATE SECRETARIAT ON THE 26TH SEPTEMBER, 2025.

NARD had its 45th AGM/Scientific conference in Katsina state between Sunday 21st - friday 26th September, 2025 and deliberated on several challenges experienced by resident doctors in Nigeria.

While commending some states who have taken giant strides to improve remuneration and welfare of doctors, the association, among other issues, noted that, non-implementation of one-for-one resident doctors replacement, as well as brain drain, poor financing, non-payment of salaries and arrears, deteriorating infrastructural facilities are major challenges facing its members and the health sector in the country.

The association called on the Federal Government to work assiduously in addressing the challenges.

The AGM & Scientific Conference also witnessed an exchange of leadership batton from Dr. Osundara Tope Zenith to Dr. Muhammad Suleiman Usman of Federal Teaching Hospital, Katsina as the new President of NARD for the year 2025/2026.
