The Massive Medical Outreach Marking A Part of Bariga Chairman's 100 Days in Office

Bariga, Lagos – November 10, 2025

To commemorate her first 100 days in office, the Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Adedeji Bukola Omope, in partnership with Lagos State Health District II, successfully organized a large-scale Free Medical Outreach for residents of Bariga.

The impactful initiative benefited over 3,000 residents, offering a wide range of essential healthcare services.

In her address at the event, Hon. Adedeji reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to public health and wellness. “Good health is a fundamental right of every Bariga resident,” she stated. “We will continue to provide qualitative healthcare, and I urge everyone to take advantage of these opportunities and cooperate with our health workers.”

The outreach attracted notable political figures who commended the Chairman’s efforts. Hon. Abiodun Orekoya, Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (Somolu I), congratulated Hon. Adedeji on her milestone and praised her performance, recalling campaign predictions of her success. Hon. Samuel Apata (Somolu II) echoed these sentiments, urging beneficiaries to appreciate the initiative.

Dr. Dayo Lajide, Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District II, lauded Hon. Adedeji’s “quest to build a healthier Bariga” and acknowledged the “giant strides” of her predecessor, Hon. Alabi Kolade David, whose investments in health infrastructure laid a solid foundation for the current administration.

In his goodwill message, Hon. Alabi Kolade David expressed pride in his successor. “I am the happiest person in this hall today, seeing her performance confirm we made the right choice,” he said. “I was amazed when I received the invitation and saw the roads she plans to commission. This is laudable for a first-time chairman.”

Medical Services Provided Included:

JF grand inauguration of PCC toward continuous mobilisations of citizens for PVC registrations

The Presidential Coalition Committee has commenced a massive grassroots mobilisation campaign aimed at promoting voter registration and Permanent Voter Card collection ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Supporters converged at the Police College Grounds in Ikeja, Lagos, for the official inauguration of the committee’s Structures and Street Captains on Saturday.

The initiative is designed to take voter sensitisation to every street and community across the country.

The event drew enthusiastic participants from all 20 local government areas and 37 local council development areas of Lagos State, marking the beginning of a nationwide effort to ensure citizens are registered and ready to participate in the next electoral process.
Addressing the gathering, the Lagos State Coordinator of the committee, James Faleke, charged the newly inaugurated Street Captains to lead the voter mobilisation drive at the grassroots level.

“Today is a very unique day. We are not here for a campaign. We are here to inaugurate you, the street captains, to move out and call on all those who have not registered or collected their PVCs.

“Encourage them to go and register and collect their PVC. Each and every one of you is to bring at least five people. Go to every home, go to your streets, and call out people to take their PVC. Without it, you cannot say anything.”

Faleke further disclosed that over 40,000 Street Captains were inaugurated, adding that the committee is confident that their presence in communities across Lagos would help deepen democratic participation, especially among first-time voters and youths who have just turned 18.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Planning Committee, Kolade Alabi, described the initiative as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to grassroots mobilisation and democratic inclusion.

He commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for reforms that, according to him, are reshaping governance and strengthening the economy.
Alabi also highlighted key achievements of the Renewed Hope Agenda, including renewed investor confidence, infrastructural growth, expansion of the digital and agricultural sectors, and social welfare programmes targeting millions of Nigerians.

“We are united by a shared vision of progress, development and a stronger democratic Nigeria. Under President Tinubu’s visionary leadership, our great party continues to redefine governance, strengthen institutions and restore faith in the Nigerian dream. His fiscal and monetary reforms, though demanding, are necessary to build self-reliance and a resilient economy.

“By empowering local councils to operate independently, President Tinubu is bringing governance closer to the people and ensuring that development reaches the grassroots. This is the true essence of democracy,” he added.

The event witnessed the presence of several political leaders who delivered goodwill messages to encourage the Street Captains to be good ambassadors in advancing voter education and democratic values within their communities.
A symbolic inauguration ceremony concluded the event as the newly appointed Street Captains pledged their commitment to sensitising residents and driving voter awareness in their respective wards.

The mobilisation for voter registration and PVC collection comes at a time when Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission has raised concerns over low voter turnout and apathy, especially among youths.

According to Dataphyte, a think tank that provides data-driven insights for socio-economic development in Nigeria and Africa, out of over 93.47 million registered voters, only about 24.9 million participated in 2023 general election.

Ahead of the 2027 polls, several civic and political groups have begun early campaigns to encourage Nigerians to register, collect their PVCs, and actively participate in the democratic process.

The initiative by the Presidential Coalition Committee aligns with these broader national efforts to improve voter awareness and civic responsibility.

9th September, 2025

The 6th Legislative House of Bariga Local Council, under the leadership of the Council Leader, Rt. Hon. Balogun Wasiu Adeleke (B), on Tuesday, 9th September 2025, held its plenary session at the Legislative Chamber.

The sitting commenced at 12:00 p.m. with an opening prayer by Hon. Olushesi Bolaji Isiaka, Chairman (F), House Committee on Health, followed by reading and adoption of the last minutes, after a motion was moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Adeogun Funmilayo (C), and seconded by Hon. Ogbere Christina, the Deputy Chief Whip.(D).

Raising a motion of urgent importance, Hon. Ogbere Christina,(D) who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, called the attention of the House to the plight of residents and business owners currently affected by flooding, especially in Ward D. Supporting the motion, Hon. Olushesi Bolaji Isiaka (F) appealed for swift intervention to mitigate the impact of the disaster.

In its resolution, the House directed the Committee on Environment to engage the Head of Department (HOD) of Environment to investigate the root causes of the flooding and recommend lasting solutions. It also emphasized the need to sensitize residents on proper drainage management to prevent recurrence.

Another pressing matter raised on the floor concerned the indiscriminate use of roads by roadside mechanics. Lawmakers frowned at the practice, describing it as disruptive to traffic flow, hazardous to motorists and pedestrians, and damaging to public infrastructure.

The House, in response, mandated the Committees on Works and Environment to jointly investigate the matter in collaboration with the Department of Environment, and to present a detailed report with pictorial evidence for further legislative action. The matter was classified as urgent.

Bringing proceedings to a close, the Majority Leader, Hon. Adeogun Funmilayo (F), moved a motion for adjournment, seconded by Hon. Olushesi Bolaji Isiaka. The House thereafter scheduled its next sitting for Thursday, 11th September 2025. The session ended at exactly 1:47 p.m. with a prayer by the Deputy Leader, Hon. Sakiru Olayinka Abiola (A), who also serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure..

Bariga, Lagos — September 1, 2025

The Executive Chairman of Bariga Local Council, Hon. Adedeji Bukola Omope, has officially announced the commencement of construction for the new Apelehin Area Office. This landmark project reflects her administration’s commitment to strengthening infrastructure and enhancing service delivery for residents.

The previous structure, which housed Bariga Local Council staff and other government institutions, was originally commissioned in 1997 but has since been demolished to pave the way for a modern, more spacious, and efficient facility.

The new three-story building will feature open-plan office spaces on both the ground and top floors, designed for flexible partitioning. It will also include dedicated parking and other essential amenities to support seamless operations.

Upon completion, the Apelehin Area Office will consolidate key government services under one roof. In addition to accommodating Bariga Local Council staff, the facility will host agencies such as:

- Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) – enabling easier passport procurement for residents
- National Identity Management Commission (NIMC)
- Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST)
- Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO)

A banking institution—yet to be announced—will also occupy space within the facility, further expanding access to financial services in the area.

Hon. Adedeji reaffirmed her administration’s dedication to people-centered development, emphasizing that the project is designed to foster socioeconomic growth and improve the quality of life for residents.

Strategically located, the new office will also serve neighboring communities, including Kosofe Local Government and parts of Agboyi, due to its proximity.

Meanwhile, physical registration kicks off on Monday 25th, at 811 State and Local Government offices of INEC nationwide. This will afford those who prefer the in-person option to register at the centres and those who chose the online pre-registration method to complete their registration.

Once again, the Commission appeals to the public that the ongoing voter registration is only open to Nigerian citizens who are at least 18 years old and who are not registered voters. Double or multiple registration is a violation of the law. However, inter-State/FCT and intra-State/FCT transfer of voters as well as the replacement of lost or damaged voters cards are allowed during the CVR.

The exercise will continue for one year until 30th August 2026. However, the Commission urged all intending registrants not to wait until the deadline approaches when, from experience, the registration centres are inundated by eleventh hour registrants amidst appeals for extension of time.
