The va**na will never be completely odorless.
Va**nal odour is something we can feel uncomfortable talking about. But getting to know your body can help you identify what’s ‘normal’ for you, and when to get help.
Every va**na and v***a has its own special smell which is a combination of the normal bacteria that live in your va**na, what you eat, your menstrual cycle, your level of hygiene, your bowel habits, how much you sweat and what your glands secretes.
Different Va**na Odor include:
1. Tangy Or Fermented Smell
A slightly tangy or sour aroma, similar to the smell of some fermented foods, is normal. This is due to the presence of the “lactobacilli” bacteria that dominates most healthy va**nas. This bacteria acts to prevent an overgrowth of yeast that is found naturally in the va**na. But that balance can be disrupted.
2. Metallic “Copper” Smell
This is usually due to the presence of blood from menstruation, or small cuts or scrapes during s*x due to va**nal dryness. Your va**nal discharge may smell slightly metallic — like copper pennies — when you’re menstruating. This is because period blood contains iron.
3. A skunk-like scent or a smell similar to body odor may be a sign that you’re stressed and your sweat glands are working overtime.
4. Fishy smell
Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is an infection that is responsible for the fishy smell most commonly associated with unpleasant va**nal odors. The fishy smell may be especially strong after s*x.
‘The first symptom is often a fishy smell, which can progress to a frothy, grey or green-ish discharge. You may also feel itchy and swollen.’
5. Ammonia smell
If you experience an ammonia-like va**nal odour, urine might be involved. This can happen if you have a urinary tract infection (UTI). A va**na that smells like ammonia may be a sign that there’s urine residue on your ge****ls (v***a) or that you’re dehydrated.
6. Sweet or beer like smell
An overgrowth of yeast in the va**na can produce this smell.
