DAY 2 HIGHLIGHT - CLINICAL OPERATIONS WORKSHOP

Day 2 at 2025 came alive in the Clinical Operations Workshop, where critical conversations shifted from theory to real-world ex*****on.

This breakout session brought together to address the pillars that define successful trials: risk assessment, operational precision, strong Quality Management Systems (QMS), and efficient site activation. Discussions focused on how proactive risk management improves trial integrity, how precision in processes enhances data quality, and how a well-structured QMS serves as the backbone of regulatory compliance and operational excellence.

Participants also explored strategies for faster and more efficient site activation, emphasizing preparedness, documentation, and cross-team collaboration as key drivers of success.

The Clinical Operations Workshop reinforced one clear message: strengthening operations is essential to delivering credible, ethical, and globally competitive clinical trials in Africa.

The Impact Africa Summit (IAS) 2025 provided a crucial platform to not only acknowledge the challenges facing the continent's health sector but to forge a path toward African-led solutions.

Dr. Mary Moussa, Head of Consulting at Africa Health Business and a Policy Fellow at the African Public Health Academy, delivered a compelling presentation that moved past the rhetoric of participation to issue a diagnosis and a treatment plan for Africa’s scientific destiny.

- Keynote Speaker Highlight!

As the Keynote Speaker at Day 1 of IASPHARMA2025, Dr. Chinweike Ukomadu delivered a powerful message on one of Africa’s most urgent challenges in drug development:

“Some of the most critical hurdles for drug development in Africa are gaps in the drug development ecosystem and ethical considerations.”

His insight underscores persistent issues across the continent, fragmented research infrastructure, limited funding pathways, and inconsistent regulatory alignment often slow down the transition from discovery to bedside. Ethical frameworks, though improving, still face challenges such as capacity limitations within ethics committees, varying standards across countries, and insufficient community engagement structures.

These gaps directly affect:
- The quality and consistency of clinical evidence
- The ability to attract global industry sponsors
- Patient safety and public trust
- Africa’s participation in cutting-edge therapeutic innovation

Dr. Ukomadu’s keynote set the tone for the summit: a call to strengthen systems, harmonize regulation, invest in ethics capacity, and build a cohesive ecosystem capable of supporting world-class research.

IASPHARMA continues to push this mission forward, driving these conversations that will transform Africa’s health future.
