When I was little, I prayed every day that my colour would change.
I thought being different meant something was wrong with me.
At the age of 10, I stopped wishing to be someone else
and started accepting who I am.
That moment changed everything.
This is my story. This is albinism.

What You Need to Know About Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC):

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common type of skin cancer.
It often appears as scaly red patches, open sores that don’t heal, wart-like growths, or raised lesions that may bleed or form a crust. When detected early, most SCC cases are highly curable.

If left untreated, SCC can grow deeper into the skin and, in rare cases, spread to other parts of the body (metastasize).
Regular use of sunscreen can reduce the risk of SCC by about 60%.

If you notice anything new, changing, or unusual on your skin, have it checked by a dermatologist.
Early detection saves lives.

UV radiation is part of the natural energy produced by the sun. On the electromagnetic spectrum, UV light has shorter wavelengths than visible light, meaning your eyes cannot see it — but your skin can feel its effects. Tanning beds also emit UV radiation. UV radiation is a proven human carcinogen.

Two types of UV light are known to increase the risk of skin cancer:

Ultraviolet A (UVA): Has a longer wavelength. It is mainly associated with tanning and skin aging but can also cause sunburn.

Ultraviolet B (UVB): Has a shorter wavelength and is mainly responsible for sunburn.

Although UVA and UVB rays affect the skin differently, both are harmful. Unprotected exposure damages the DNA in skin cells, causing genetic mutations that can lead to skin cancer and premature aging. UV rays can also harm the eyes, leading to conditions such as cataracts and eyelid cancers.
