Avoid Trans Fats which are linked to infertility.
According to researchers at Harvard University, the more trans fats a woman eats, the greater her risk of fertility problems.
Consuming 4 grams of trans fat a day (less than the average American eats) can affect fertility.
In the famous Harvard study of 18,000 women, for every 2% of additional calories the women ate from trans fats, their risk of infertility increased by 73 percent.
Trans fats increase levels of "bad" cholesterol (LDL) and decrease relative levels of "good" cholesterol (HDL).
They also promote inflammation and the formation of blood clots within blood vessels.
A diet high in trans fats is a diet likely to lead to obesity and being significantly overweight is not good for regular ovulation.
Trans fats interfere with body chemistry such that the body becomes more resistant to insulin. This makes levels of both sugar and insulin in the bloodstream go up, another strike against full fertility.
The inflammatory effect of trans fats can interfere with ovulation, conception, and even early embryo development.
The effects of trans fats on women with PCOS may be even worse. Trans fats can interfere with the cell receptor activity that is involved with inflammation, glucose metabolism, and insulin sensitivity, making it more difficult for women with PCOS to conceive.
Avoid anything with “partially hydrogenated vegetable oil,” which is the source of trans fats.
Hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated oils are found in processed, fried, and fast foods. So read nutrition labels carefully to avoid trans fats and avoid anything with ‘hydrogenated’ in it.
The following foods are some of the most common sources of trans fats:
> Margarine
> Shortening
> Baked goods: cakes, cookies, crackers, pies, bread, etc.
> Packaged cake mixes, Bisquick, and other mixes
> Fried potatoes, or other commercially deep-fried foods
> Potato chips
> corn chips
> movie popcorn
> Salad dressing
> Breakfast cereals
> Candy
> Animal products (such as milk products, cheese, beef, and lamb)
> Soups. Ramen noodles and soup cups contain very high levels of trans fat.
> Fast Food. Fries, chicken, and other foods are deep-fried in partially hydrogenated oil.
> Frozen Food. Frozen pies, pot pies, waffles, pizzas, even breaded fish sticks contain trans fat. *Even if the label says it's low-fat, it still has trans fat.*
