Continuation on menopause and its challenges
About two weeks ago,I thought I was going to die, because my heart was beating as if,it wanted to come out of my body. This is my major problem. Anytime this happens,I have to suspend all that am doing,and sit down quitely until I get myself back. You can see the towel I carry about,I sweat more than any woman I know. My kneels sometimes appear not to be there again,too much pain. Is this sickness,or end time thing sir?"
Another friend of Iya Ibeji's said,"they have been in it for about fifteen months now. I don't feel any how,but I want s*x all the time now,I wasn't like that before.I hope am not turning to Asewo now. My sense of attachment to my husband has increased badly. Am more jealous and highly poccessive than before. Apart from these am cool and happy."
By this time,I had concluded my pounded yam,with efo riro. I now move from the dinning table,to join Iya Ibeji and friends in the family sitting area for further discussion.
When I smiled and welcome them all,their contenances changed,they looked too serious.
I smiled again,and told them all that they are passing through is menopause.
And it's not a disease on its own. It is an inevitable biological process in the life of every woman, menopause signifies when reproductive process comes to a halt.
Menopause is referred to as cessation of menstrual periods and ovulation. It is referred to as "Change in life." A woman can experience last menstrual periods between the ages of 40 to50,in some cases a woman may menstruate up to the age of 60years. The average age for menopause is 51years. From this age,the years leading to menopause are characterized by distruption in menstrual cycle and even in the nature of periods themselves. Some women experience menopause with serious discomfort,whilst others do not even have any discomfort at all.
A woman is considered post-menopause when she has passed 45 years of age and she has not menstruated for six months.
Many of the symptoms of menopause had been mentioned by Iya Ibeji and friends above. 25% of women experience distress during this period. These symptoms may last up to five years.
Menopause occurs because production of estrogen and progesterone in the ovaries had greatly decreased. Without the supply of sufficient estrogen,the uterine lining,that is shed during menstruation can not form. This change can occur suddenly,this account for a variety of physical and emotional symptoms.
Please note,that contrary to popular belief that the loss of estrogen experienced during menopause leads to redistribution of fat, contributes to loss of muscle and indeed causes wrinkles, research has proved this to be most untrue.
Women who underwent surgery removing their uterus experience untimely menopause.
Women who were given chemotherapy and radiation therapy as cancer treatment, usually experience instant cessation of menstruation.
Today's women suffer more symptoms of menopause compared to our forebearers,why?
Corporate ladies eat a lot of denatured meals and drinks. Indeed a woman who has menopause discomfort, once told me that everyday she suffered something that could be likened to mental illness. I asked what was her best meal,it was hot bread eaten with Noddles. This she takes at least once daily.

Dietary Guide For Menopausal Women
Eat diets high in raw vegetables like carrots, cucumber, lettuce, cabbage amongst others.
Avoid red meats,wheat and wheat products,sugar, dairy products, coffee,teas not recommended by a professional,greasy foods,fried meals,alchol,all types of soft drinks,and ni****ne.
Alchol and caffeine aggravate the hot flashes
Drinking up to 3 litres of water is very
helpful.
Avoid stress as much as possible.
Daily exercise will assist all women in menopause.
The propensity to have oestroporosis becomes very high at menopause,the tendency is greater when Menopause is induced. Don't engage in activities that may fracture your bone.
Women in Menopause and indeed all women,should learn to forgive others quickly,it helps the healing of the soul and body fast. Indeed the origin of some degenerative diseases could be traced to unforgiveness. Please endeavor to forget very quickly too.
Eating frequent light meals,is preferable to eating 3 heavy meals,this discourges the hot flashes
Avoid smoking and secondary smoke.
Junk or fast foods are fingered as frequent trigger of hot flashes.
