ABOUT THE PROGRAM IN SOUTH AFRICA
The community health worker serves as a bridge between the community and
the health care, government and social service systems. Community health
workers build individual and community capacity by increasing health
knowledge and self-sufficiency through a range of activities such as
outreach, community education, informal counseling, social support and
advocacy. A certificate as a qualified Health Worker will be issued to
candidates who successfully complete the course.
Accreditation: This program is accredited by the South African Nursing
Council (SANC).
Duration: 6 months (3 months Classwork + 3 months internship)
Intakes: February, May, August and November every year.

Internship:
This program consists of 3 months classwork and 3 months internship.
Clinical placement will be done by Healthnicon at Residential facilities
for elderly persons and other Healthcare facilities. Practical Experience
are done without any remuneration.
After the Program?
There are several opportunities for students who successfully complete
this program.
1. Job Placement: After successful completion of the program, students can
go directly into the labour market as there are several career
opportunities for community health workers. This certificate can be used
to work anywhere in the world (USA, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa,
Nigeria, Europe etc) as a certified community health worker.
2. Further Studies: Students will have the opportunity to continue into
the Diploma or Degree nursing program in South Africa or any other country
of choice. You may also apply for the formal nursing programs at
Healthnicon Nursing School after you have completed your Community Health
Worker Short Course or the following short courses: AUXILIARY NURSING
PROGRAM, GERIATRIC SHORT COURSE, ORTHOPAEDIC SHORT COURSE, PAEDRIATRIC
SHORT COURSE.
