“Arike” a movie by Biodun Stephen
A Reflection on Parenting and Society in the Digital Age - my 💭💭💭
Arike explores the complexities of parenting teenagers in today’s digital world, bringing to light themes such as adolescent misbehavior, shame, societal ostracization, and the necessity of parental support. The film examines the unequal ways boys and girls are judged in the wake of scandals, while offering lessons in parenting, friendship, peer influence, and the adolescent search for belonging.
It also raises critical questions about the role of the church, family, and society in either providing or denying a safe space for healing and restoration.
As a Reproductive Health expert and gender equity advocate, this movie offered me valuable insights into the pivotal role society must play in supporting and restoring young people, especially as they navigate the ever-present pressures of the digital space.
