MENSTRUAL CRAMPS
Normal Cause
The womb is a muscle. Every month during your period, this muscle tightens to push out the lining it no longer needs. When it squeezes, blood flow reduces for a moment and that lack of oxygen causes the pain you feel.
Other Causes
Chemical Cause
During menstruation, the body produces chemicals called prostaglandins. They help the womb contract. Some women produce too much of these chemicals, and when that happens, the womb squeezes too strongly and too quickly, leading to more painful cramps.
Medical Causes
Sometimes the pain is not just from normal contractions. It may come from an underlying condition.
Endometriosis
This happens when tissue that is supposed to grow inside the womb grows outside it, such as on the ovaries or bowel. When your period starts, this tissue bleeds too, but it cannot leave the body. This causes intense pain.
Fibroids
Fibroids are non-cancerous growths in or on the womb. They make the womb feel tighter and heavier. When the womb contracts during your period, the presence of fibroids makes the pain worse.
Adenomyosis
This occurs when the lining of the womb grows into the muscle of the womb itself. It makes the muscle thicker and more sensitive, leading to stronger pain during menstruation.
JCMS can help relieve severe period pain. It also supports the shrinking of growths such as fibroids or cysts, reducing the discomfort they cause.
