Some leaders see safety as a cost. Others see it as culture.
Over the years—as a Site SHE Manager, Company SHEQ and Security Manager , Regional Safety Manager, and now a consultant—I’ve met both types.
I’ve worked with Managers who believed Occupational Safety Health and Environment (SHE) was just Safety boots, Safety Helmet and paperwork. No involvement. No ownership. Just another expense line. But I’ve also worked with many leaders, I call them "Leaders, who get it." With them, safety isn’t a KPI—it’s a value. You see it in their actions:
They put SHE on every agenda.
They take personal safety commitments.
They know their site’s major risks.
They lead by example.
These are the leaders shaping the future of work and sustainability. And they deserve the spotlight.
That’s why we’re launching our weekly “Leaders Who Gets It” feature alongside our Safety Leadership Excellence Workshops—to recognize those who show that good safety is good business.
