Happy New Year wonderful people..... It's my prayer that this sea*on will be the one you've been waiting for in Jesus name

Talking about accidentals based on the questions asked:
Accidentals can't be discussed without full understanding of notes and key signature/identification...

SHARP raises notes by a semitone in pitch e.g. when any notes is raised, e replaces all letters after the first letter such as doh = de, fah =fe, soh = se and some on. However, only five major notes/keys are sharpened ; (C, D, F, G, A are the only keys that can be sharpened. It'll be seriously offending to hear a singer telling you he/she sings on E-sharp or B-sharp because those two keys can't be sharpened. Similarly, among all major notes, me and te can't be sharpened too and as a result of than no extra e is added to them. Also no black key is placed after me and te in C-major scale. Unlike every other notes, when me and te are raised by a semitone respectively, the result is fah and doh respectively).

FLAT lower notes by semitone in pitch. In the case of flat, aw is used in place of e as earlier explained. Also, only five notes/keys can be flattened ( D, E, G, A, B are the only flattened keys while ray, me, soh, lah, te are the notes that can be flattened. When flattened; ray=raw, me=maw, soh =saw and so on.)

NATURALS restores sharpened/flattened note to original note

Considering sharp and flat, the Black Keys on the piano is given to names each as a result of raising and lowering of notes by semitone.....

C-sharp=D-flat
D-sharp=E-flat
F-sharp=G-flat
G-sharp=A-flat
A-sharp=B-flat

In summary, Accidentals are those changes observed whenever a note/key is raised or lower by a semitone in pitch

I hope this will also help in understanding Accidentals

Dear Minstrel
Today's Meditation
THE PSALM 23 OF THE CHORISTER.

The Lord is my Music Director, I shall not sing off key. He helps me locate my optimum vocal range, He directs me to my right singing part; hmm bass. Yes, I am now confident and bold to express myself,

He scores the music, gives me the tonic sofas and instructs me to sing in harmony with other parts so he would not be sanctioned by the pastor. Ah!, even when I forget my lines when singing, I refuse to let the congregation know because you are always conducting the choir with smiles. Your body language and facial expressions are enough to warn me.

You prepared the ministration roster for the month and gave me three slots for three Sundays to lead praise-worship in a choir of fifty people with four recording artistes, my oh my! You recommended me for a special music ministration at the presidential villa, then I began to travel out of the country every month to minister..oh my God..wow!.

Surely your good face has changed my status and with your merciful eyes no one can bring me down wherever I go: and it doesn't matter how many national and international invitations I receive I will remain faithful to serve in our home church under your leadership any day any time. Psalm 23:1-6.
Free to share! Thanks.

REHEARSING WRONGLY
Do you know its possible to be rehearsing but be doing it all wrong? What if you've been having wrong rehearsals for the past 5 years? And that's why you've been rehearsing but you're not getting as good as you should be.

Do you know rehearsing wrongly does same damage as not rehearsing at all?
Let me explain. Many singers in a bid to get better at singing go and look for all Songs from fantastic vocalists like "J. Moss, Fantasia Barino, Karen Clark-Sheard, Jonathan McReynolds" and they start scoring all the slurs and riffs and all that. Do you however know that shouldn't be where you should start from as a singer. If you don't understand the basics of breath control all those heavy techniques from pro singers may just make you feel like you're doing something when in fact you're not getting better. If you don't have well trained ears to recognize key and switches why go for higher learning? Take it step by step. Don't be in a hurry. Simple white rice with salt you can't cook. Now you want to make Jollof Rice with "orisirishi"🤓 Do you get my analogy??

You're a drummer and once you get on the drums you just start rolling up and down. Simple groove you can't keep consistent. After 90 seconds you can't follow a simple loop to the right metronome, 🤓.. Leave "Calvin Rogers" alone. That's not the rehearsal you need now. Work on your timing. Understand how to play each genre differently and how to not go off beat before you move higher. All great drummers started from the basics.

Many singers need to focus more on their timing, attacking songs well and staying on key. Instead of rehearsing those basics they want to sound like Yinka Davies. You can't do University if you haven't done Primary school. Ordinary arithmetic is hard for you, how will you pass Calculus?🤓

Take it step by step. Keyboardist, leave "Snarky Puppy" alone. Work on playing well on all keys first, at least the major chords, work on scoring, rehearse how to follow singers without doing too much. I am amazed when I see keyboardist who can't hold a simple chord pattern down for a song. They just start running scales and soloing..

Some choirs should be rehearsing how to sing with the right charisma not all these modulations. Leave modulations for later. Your singers can't even pick keys yet.

REHEARSAL MUST ADD SOMETHING NEW TO YOU.
Any rehearsal you have in your choir or as an individual that doesn't add anything new to you, that you didn't learn new things, that you didn't leave there stretched was simply a waste of time. You can't be better except you're stretched out of your comfort zone.

Confirm from my Choir members- You can't leave a rehearsal I'm handling without leaning at least 10-25 new things. That's overload right? Its better. I do it deliberately. You will leave with your voice stretched, your body stretched and your mind stretched. Guess what, when you're stretched you don't come back to the same state. You get better.

Rehearsals are not activities you do to prepare for performance. They are activities you do to develop your skill. If you're in a choir, by the time you're leaving your choir rehearsal, you must have learnt new things. Not just learnt new songs but learnt new things. Music Directors please do your job in this regard. There must be something you didn't know about singing, harmonies adlibbing, arranging etc before that you now know.

REHEARSALS REQUIRE PATIENCE
Don't be in a hurry. There are things you will be rehearsing in your team and it may take weeks or months for people to get. Just keep repeating the exercises every week. Be patient with your people as they learn. No one becomes good in a day. You may try to hit those notes today and its taking weeks, don't stop keep at it. Charisma, stage presence, sing interpretation.. It's with time. Be patient. You're trying to increase your speed on the piano, keep at it. You want to have stronger strokes on the drums, don't atop. Be patient. These things happen over time and consistency.

WORship phil3:3

Our worship is perfect because our offering(Jesus) is perfect.

Our worship is acceptable because our offering(Jesus) is accepted... Heb8, 9,10.

In the expression of our worship as sons, which is commonly called the "mood of worship", there is a presence, there is an atmosphere, there is a leading, and there is a response.

Presence: This is the right of sons. We got him by the acceptance of the life of Christ... He is the person of the Holy Ghost, the sceptre of righteousness. (rom8:14-19)

Atmosphere : This is built or generated by the awareness of the believer to his position in Christ. The atmosphere we create is a function of the grace (ability) multiplied unto you through the knowledge of the word, prayer, and spiritual impartation (col3:16,act6:4, james5:16, 2tim1:6), which in turn helps your maturity in handling spirituals(heb5:13-14). These are the clouds, outburst, spiritual manifestations e.t.c

Leading: This is a very sensitive aspect, knowing fully well that the mind is involved. At this point, the message communicated to the congregation is as a result of the renewal of the mind of the worship leader by God's word (new creation realities).
Worship has to do with the revelation of Jesus(rev19:10), and "the revelation of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy".
However, it should be noted that the level of the knowledge of the worship leader does not alter the manifestations of spiritual gifts, because the anointing(presence) is always available for the believer. There will be less opportunity for edification and comfort, because of inaccuracy in God's word.
In worship, the right words and songs are needed to help the people create an atmosphere around them, so as to partake of the manifestations of the spirit.
"The worship leader directs the flow..."

Response: This is were the communion in worship comes in. You minister to Him(God) and He ministers to you in is awesome majesty.
Hey! I know Your question is that: what do I have to offer God or what is my qualification, that I will minister to God?
You have life to offer, because it's a ministration of life, offered by the magnification of the person of Christ before ourselves and speaking of His finished works.
At this point, you tell Him "I love to worship you" and He responds, "I love to hear you worship me, it's the best I ever had".

Worship is the expression of the life and love of God in/for a believer. "Our worship is the expression of our spirit through the Spirit of God to exalt Jesus and the Father".

In worship you have THE PRESENCE TO CREATE A SUITABLE/CONDUCIVE ATMOSPHERE THROUGH THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD'S WORD IN THE WORSHIP LEADER(YOU), SO AS TO GET A DESIRED RESPONSE FOR YOUR ENTIRE BEING.
John4:23-24

Many singers and church choral groups already have a wrong perception of rehearsal and it's affecting them negatively yet they don't know. Most of the issues with their music are not spiritual. There are no demons affecting them. Also its not that their members are unserious. They just don't get the concept of rehearsals and how to get the best result as a team.
When you simply perform a song or set of songs, you will be doing yourself no good. It will be like a student who crams for an exam and then goes to pour it out in the exam. After the exam, that student will forget everything and can't even apply what they wrote outside the exam or in other questions or even in real life situations.
That's why many singers and instrumentalists can't apply the skill from a song to another song or even to their every day music. Some even can't sing the same song twice with the same energy and excellence. Once they sing the song once and the whole audience goes bananas, they forget the song. Call them 2 weeks later and it will be as if they never sang the song. Even some, ordinary intro they can't remember anymore.
Don't have a performance mindset when rehearsing. Have a mindset of performing the song excellently well but most importantly, learn skills that you can use later on and even apply to other songs at other times. What's the use of scoring one Hezekiah Walker song with like 25 modulations and you can't even pitch well on others songs you sing after? You've "scored" and sang God Great God by Kurt Carr. Yes there were modulations in the song. Did you know what kind of modulations they were? Can you apply it to other songs you are rearranging? Can you run those minor 3rd movements on another song? When you rehearse a song, be deep in the song. Not just sing or play.. Understand why you sing or play whatever at that time.
Its important singers get the songs they will be rehearsing on time. Its a lazy MD who waits till rehearsal day or just a day before performance before introducing a song. Don't get me wrong. You can bring a new song a day before in certain circumstances. It just shouldn't be the default mode. Don't lie saying GOD just gave you the song. He has been inspiring the arrangement in your heart for weeks now but you weren't listening. Giving out songs on time helps people to work well on the song and it always shows at performance. Think and plan ahead for rehearsals. Think a month ahead, ask your Pastor about the services and programs ahead so you can select and arrange the right songs and assign the right leads and instrument players.
Music team members, you have no business at a rehearsal when you haven't mastered your material before coming. Apart from the fact that you are coming to waste everybody's time, you're not helping yourself at all. You can't grow personally that way. You would come for rehearsal and be following what others are singing. You won't develop the capacity to score songs, score harmonies on your own. And to those instrumentalist
s who will be deceiving themselves that the song is too simple or they are too good cos they play for XYZ so they are too big to score songs I say to you ,
# Weihhdone Sir!!!! You will soon hear yourself playing like you're in 1920. And don't fool yourself thinking you're OK because you play around with a Major artist. Rehearsal and scoring songs are very important to the development of a Musician not playing around with an artist. Selah.
Choir members must listen to songs and master it to a large extent before arriving rehearsal.. I heard some say they can't download songs cos they don't have a good phone. Go and borrow money or don't make your hair for 3 months, don't eat out for a while, take a loan, don't buy that shoe or a*o ebi and invest in your passion and Ministry. Having a good phone or laptop and fast internet is an INVESTMENT into your music life. How else do you want keep up with the fast paced development in Music? How do you want to get new songs? Why are you complaining that there's no fresh fire in your ministrations? Why would there be fresh fire when you're singing old songs. And please don't tell me its not all about new songs. Yes its not all about new songs but I can bet you, you can't get revival in a music team that's not current with songs. I'll explain that on a later date. Any where there's a move of God and top notch music ministry, people are singing RIGHT and CURRENT songs.
Apply this in the next one week and continue it and share your results with me
