Dear Colleagues

I hope you have an opportunity to watch this, I see it as an amazing interview.

I was made to speak on a number of issues as it surrounds health and safety in Africa and I think it came out so well on the long run.

I must appreciate the partnership we have with ORP Foundation Barcelona, this is helping us greatly🙏

Dear Colleagues

Today, this 31st May is World No To***co Day. The theme for this year's program is "Commit to Quit".

To***co has been documented as a leading preventable cause of cancer and cancer deaths globally. It causes more lung cancer- based on current evidence, it causes cancers of the mouth and throat, voice box, esophagus, stomach, kidney, pancreas, liver, bladder, cervix, colon and re**um and a type of leukamia. This is one of the biggest public health threats the world has ever faced, killing more than 8 million people a year around the world. More than 7 million of those deaths as the result of direct To***co use around 1.2 million are the result of non smokers being exposed to second hand smoke.

OSHAfrica joins the rest of the world to mark this day and we hope you are able to also host an event in your workplaces today or within the week. By all means do something to Commit to Quitting To***co.

Dear Colleagues

We have a new webinar being hosted by WHWB and the focus is Africa. We will be looking at the region's health systems, policies and practices and asking ourselves very critical questions on how we responded in the face of COVID-19. Did we get the best of response? If no, what did we not get right and what were the policies, culture and stereotypes that posed hiccups to a better performance?

Are there inclusion of OSH experts in African health systems? Did we have need for them at the face of COVID-19? What is the plan in forging into the future?

How are African healthcare systems administered? How do we reset them to function as healthcare systems rather than medical systems?

This is a whole new twist to the developing reports on working from home. The totally contrast the June and December 2020 report of PWC. While the report clearly shows how employees and employers are growing to love remote working with increased productivity, but there are some contrasting views and decisions being made across some quarters. So where are we headed?

Do you think employees are really getting tired and adjusting to 5 days work from home weekly is a lot to deal with? Has anyone considered employees who live alone? A number of organisations have given dates to open their offices fully to physical work.

What are your views? Do you think while we work from home, we all miss that social integration and network which we all draw support from?

Kindly read and share your views afterwards.

Dear Colleagues and Friends

Another article of mine just got published by Patient Safety Learning Hub UK and this is titled "The Minutes of the Minute".

This clearly looks at what we learn from the act of an event or an incident and using that lesson towards systems Improvement. We highlighted the place of accountability, honest and practical leadership, incident reporting without blame-game and documentation.

We have a whole lot to learn from this which we can relate to in our systems and perhaps reviewing our existing management patterns or models.

This was published 17 hours ago and has been widely read. We all have our Minutes of thr Minute, we either give attention to the details, document them and learn from them or we miss the opportunity and allowing room for a recurrence. We have a choice to make but we must remember, we have so much at stake even when we have just a single incident.

The Minutes of the Minute Model can be applied to any practice or program but the whole aim is to take note of what has happened so we can all learn from it. ehi

OSHVERSITY REPORT SUMMARY

It has been a very impressive take off for us at OSHversity in spite of the challenges of COVID-19, we were able to walk along the lines of our intended goals.

Below is our activity report summary, we trained for FREE 130 persons from 15 countries and this was a big excitement for us, we are looking forward to doing more in Q2.

We have done this without any support, we have used personal funds to offer these sets of Occupational Health and Safety Trainings online to enable a wider reach.

We have tried what we could do on our own and we are happy with this result. Should you want to support this project that is clearly focused at OSH training and competency improvement for citizens from LMIC, you can visit www.oshversity.com and click on the support link to reach us. You can also email us using info@oshversity.com.

When we offer these FREE OSH trainings to those who could not access training because they could not afford the cost, we make workplaces even safer for our loved ones and also reduce the rate of quacks in OSH profession. He that has ears, let him hear.

This issue about the different vaccines being mixed together mistakenly is totally unacceptable. This is a clear case of Patient safety at production stage.

So what is the fate of the people who have taken the doses of the same AstraZeneca vaccines? I hear the European Health Agency released a statement saying the benefits of the vaccine outweighs the risk and I got even more worried. Really? In science?

I think the world should give AstraZeneca time to sort out their mess, there is a totally loss of confidence in their vaccine now and they need to fix that first rather than putting Commerce above public safety.

Please read and share your views if you can. ehi

Working from home has become one of the legacies from COVID-19. The burden of upper and lower back pain is on the increase.

While a number of organisations are not even in a hurry to return to office environment, some studies have revealed that most employees are not even willing to return to physical office work pattern, this means remote working has come to stay. If this is the case, the need to train our employees on safe remote working should take a front roll in our daily conversations.

A recent report from BUPA clearly stated that 11 million Brits are now in pain from working from their homes and only 32% have dedicated Workplaces in their homes. Others are forced to work from sofas, kitchen seats, beds etc.

We have designed this training to address how to safely work from home. It is called Ergonomics Management in Remote Working. You need to visit www.oshversity.com to register.
