To our distinguished clients of Queens Eye Hospital, welcome to a brand new week. We pray you all have a blessed week. Today we are talking about Presbyopia.
What's Presbyopia?
We will use lay terms for everyone's understanding. Everyone of us has a lens positioned at the middle of the eyes. The lenses are called crystalline lenses. They are transparent and easily allow light to pass through. They have thread like structure that holds it at both ends. These thread like structures allows it to adjust itself whenever we want to read or look at any close objects. This is called power of accommodation.
With age, the ability to adjust itself to enable us read reduces. The lenses tend to be stiff. When these occurs, we find it difficult reading tiny prints. It's called Presbyopia. It's an age related condition and usually starts for most people at the age of 40. Although some can experience it earlier or later than 40.
What are the signs and symptoms of Presbyopia?
1: Intermittent blury vision, eye strain or frontal headache when you attempt to read for long
2: Stretching your hands or pushing the objects farther away from you to make them clearer
3: Tearing up after reading for a while or using your computer
4: Requiring very bright to read rather than the normal intensity of light.
5: Feeling sleepy while reading or using the computers.
