It took me 10 years to learn this and I want to teach it to you in 30 seconds.

Now I can look at the numbers on my .global and see it for what it is, not a grade or a reflection of me but just data to help me.

1. Hating on people with type 2 diabetes won’t cure you of type 1 diabetes

2. It also won’t help with the stigma we all experience

3. What works for you may not work for me and that’s ok, both of our diabetes experiences are valid

4. Your sugars might be high overnight because you’re still snacking like you used to before you had a CGM (this is a message to myself 🤭)

5. There is literally nothing a non diabetic can do that you can’t (expect produce insulin 🥲)

What advice would you give??

Never get too comfortable because diabetes hates to see you happy 😂 or tired or full or busy or breathing.

Also watching this back I realise how much we have our own language as diabetics and I just love that for us 🥰

I often wish I could speak to my teen self and show her what her life will look like once she lets go of all the things that are out of her control and do not define her. She’d never believe that the condition she hides and hates could one day be the reason she gets to do some incredible stuff and be a part of an amazing community. She’s come so far ❤️

We started this together so it’s only fair I give you an update!

I’ve been with my new diabetes team for 6 months and on the omnipod 5 for 3 months so here are my thoughts.

I also forgot to mention that I got my HbA1C back yesterday and it’s 50, the lowest since I went off to uni in 2013 🥹

If you’re in the middle of fighting for anything for your health, diabetes or otherwise, please keep going. I know it’s exhausting and extremely unfair but the benefits are worth it ❤️

Not quite 2016 but I did come across the issue of on campus from 2013!! I was followed during my first term to see how my health was affected by university life, what wasn’t mentioned? DIABETES.

I made the journalist promise not to mention me living with diabetes because I was so ashamed of it. Looking back shows me how far I’ve come because now I’ll tell anyone who will listen.

I make content about it, I do all sorts of talks, host , I write articles, harass people in the streets about it, truly my life now willing revolves around diabetes. What a difference a decade makes!

Because I didn’t d!e when my nurse hadn’t me my first insulin pen (even though it felt like I was 💀)

13+ years later and I’m still very much alive and living life to the fullest.

Any new diabetics feeling the way I did, know that you really will learn to adapt and your life isn’t over, it’s just beginning 💙
