WORLD RABBIS DAY 2016
Every 28th September is marked as world rabbis day.
In the 16th century , an Italian Physician Girolamo Francastoro discovered Rabbis was a fatal disease affecting human as well as animals, calling it an incurable wound. However it was [LOUIS . PASTEUR] a French biologist that created the first vaccine in 1885.
WHAT IS RABBIS:
Rabies is a viral illness spread via the saliva of an infected animal. ... Rabies is caused by the rabies virus. ... After being bitten by a rabid animal, the virus is deposited in the muscle and subcutaneous tissue.
HOW CAN RABBIS BE CONTACTED:
Rabies is usually transmitted through the saliva of the host animal (or person), usually via a bite or scratch. Most human cases (90%) are caused by exposure from an infected dog. However bats, raccoons, skunks, foxes, and coyotes are also known to be important reservoirs of the disease.
SYMPTOMS AND COMPLICATIONS OF RABBIS
These symptoms include:
• sore throat
• depression
• pain at the bite site
• a general feeling of illness
• fever
• headache
• poor appetite, nausea, and vomiting
• muscle aches
In 4 - 10 days, neurological symptoms will appear as the virus begins to multiply in the spinal cord or brain. From the point where the rabies virus entered the body, the virus moves towards the brain along the nerves. A person may show the first signs of rabies an average of one to three months after the virus enters the body. In humans, the first symptoms of the disease are non-specific and resemble other viral infections, they include:
• anxiety
• confusion
• excessive saliva production
• hallucinations
• high level of excitement
• insomnia
• paralysis of lower legs
• problems swallowing due to painful throat and voice box spasms
• hydrophobia (fear at the sight of water despite an intense thirst)
• restlessness
