CAUSES OF CHILD ABUSE..... cont'd
There is some limited evidence that children with moderate or severe disabilities are more likely to be victims of abuse than non-disabilities children.
A study on child abuse sought to determine: The forms of child abuse perpetrated on children with disabilities; the extent of child abuse; and the causes of child abuse of children with disabilities.
A questionnaire on child abuse was adapted and used to collect data in this study., participants comprised a sample of 31 pupils with disabilities (15 children with vision impairment and 16 children with hearing impairment ) selected from special schools.
The study found that majority participants were involved in doing domestic chores. They were also sexually ,physically and emotionally abused by their teachers, relations and neighbour .
This study showed that children with disabilities were vulnerable to child abuse in their schools and neighborhood.
SUBSTANCE ABUSE : this been a major contributing factor to child abuse., one U.S study found that parents with documented substance abuse, most commonly alcohol, co***ne and heroin, were much more likely to mistreat their children, and were also much more likely to reject court-ordered services and treatments.
Another study found that over two-thirds of cases of child maltreatment involved parents with substance abuse problems., this study specifically found relationships between alcohol and physical abuse, and between co***ne and sexual abuse.
Also, parent stress caused by substance increase the likehood of the minor exhibiting internalizing and externalizing behaviors., although the abuse victim does not always realized the abuse is wrong, the internal confusion can lead to chaos.inner anger turns to outer frustration.
once aged 17/18,drink and drugs are used to numb the hurt feelings, nightmares and daytime flashbacks. acquisitive crime to pay for the chemicals are inevitable if the victim is unable to find employment.

Causes Of Child Abuse
Child abuse is complex phenomenon with multiple cause.,understanding the causes of abuse is crucial to addressing the problem of child abuse.
Parents who physically abuse their spouses are more likely than others who physically abuse their children. However, it is impossible to know whether marital strife is a cause of child abuse, or if both the marital strife and the abuse are caused by tendencies in the abuser.
Sometimes, parents' set expectations for their child that are clearly beyond the child's capacity., when parent's expectations are far beyond what is appropriate to the child ( eg., pre-school children who are expected to be totally responsible for self-catering or provision of nurturance to parents ) the resulting frustration caused by the child's non-compliances is believed to function as a contributory if not necessary cause of child abuse.
Michael Freeman of University College London argues that the ultimate causes of child abuse lie in Cultural views of children as having inferior status to adults, especially the view that human right do not apply equally to adults and children. He writes, " The roots of child abuse lie not in parental psychopathology or in socio-environmental stress (though their influenced cannot be discounted ) but in a sick culture which denigrates and depersonalizes, which reduces children to property, to sexual objects of both adult Violence's and lust " .
Children resulting from unintended pregnancies are more likely to be abused or neglected., in addition, unintended pregnancies are more likely than intended pregnancies to be associated with abusive relationships, and there is an increased risk of physical violence during pregnancy., they also result in poorer maternal mental healthy, and lower mother-child relationship quality.

NEGLECT
Child neglect is the failure of a parent or other person with responsibility for the child to provide needed such as: food, clothing, shelter, medical care or supervision to the degree that the child's health, safety, well-being are threatened with harm.
Neglect is also a lack of attention from the people surrounding a child, and the non-provision of the relevant and adequate necessities for the child's survival, which would be a lacking in attentions, love and nature.
Some of the observable signs in a neglected child include: the child is frequently absent from school, begs or steals food or money, lacks needed medical and dental care,is consistently dirty,or lacks sufficient clothing for the weather.
Neglectful acts can be divided into six(6) sub-categories.
(1) Supervisory neglect :Characterized by the absence of a parent or guardians which can be lead to physical harm, sexual abuses or criminal behaviours.
(2) Physical neglect : Characterized by the failure to provide the basic physical necessities, such as a safe and clean home.
(3) Medical neglect : Characterized by the lack of providing medical care.
(4) Emotional neglect : Characterized by lack of nurturance, encouragement and support.
(5) Educational neglect : Characterized by the caregivers lack to provide an education and additional resources to actively participate in the school system.
(6) Abandonment neglect : Characterized by when the parent or guardian leaves a child alone for a long period of time.
Neglect children may experience delays in physical and psychosocial development, possibly resulting in psychopathology and impaired Nero-psychological functions including executives function, attention, processing speed, language, memory and social skills.
Researchers investigating maltreatment children have repeatedly found that neglected children in foster and adoptive populations manifest different emotional and behavioural reactions to regain lost or secure relationships and are frequently reported to have disorganized attachments and a need to control their environments.,such children are not likely to view caregivers as being a source of safety, and instead typically show an increase in aggressive and hyperactive behaviors which may disrupt healthy or secure attachment with their adopted parents.
These children have apparently learned to adapt to an abusive and inconsistent caregivers by becoming cautiously self-reliant,and are often described as glib, manipulative and disingenuous in their interactions with others as they move through childhood.
Children who are victims of neglect have a more difficult time forming and maintaining relationships ,such as: romantic or friendships, later in life due to the lack of attachment they had in their earlier stages of life.

Child Labour In Nigeria
Child labour in Nigeria is the employment of children under the age of (18) in a manner that restrict or prevent them from basic education and development. child labour is pervasive in every state of the country.
poverty is the major factors that drive child labour in nigeria., in poor families, child labour is a large part of income of the family.... some families give birth to children at large to over populated the country, which will cause the younger ones to engage in child labour in other for the elder son to be educated...... let encourage family planning.
UNICEF, Nigeria is active for children rights. Child workers include; street vendors, shoe shiners, apprentice mechanics, carpenters, vulcanizers, tailors, barbers and domestic servants. we are not against handwork but not at that tender age below (18) to met down poverty and education together., each states has government school from primary level to secondary level, which every child from poor home must attend before going into handwork.the most important issue is that base on the large rate of unemployment in Nigeria, some people prefer handwork than education, which this platform didn't criticize but rather make it a better choice for interested children to engage in handwork at (18) years above......many working children are exposed to dangerous and unhealthy environments, maltreatment from their apprentice master, hardship and beggers.
Nigeria government formally adopted three International Labour Organisation (ILO) conventions setting a minimum age for the employment of children., the government also implemented West African Cocoa Agriculture Project (WACAP). there is a similar inciidence of child labour in rural and Urban Nigeria.
five (5) years ago , the Us department of Labour in report claims Nigeria is witnessing the worst form of child labour, particularly in agriculture and domestic service. In rural areas most children work in agriculture products such as Cassava, Cocoa and To***co. these children typically work long hours and for little pay.,also some children are exposed to pesticides and chemical fertilizers in cocoa and to***co fields because of archaic farming practices or because they are deployed to force labour at their tender age.
Additionally, street children work as posters and scavengers,a growing number of them engage in begging and sexual exploitation of children;especially girls, is also occurring in some Nigeria cities, including Port-harcourt and Lagos.
TRAFFICKING
This is trafficking of children in Nigeria. child labour is more common among of illiterates., there is a higher work burden for working children;boys tend to earn more, girls non-participation in schooling is more likely affected by parent's lack of interest than boy's.
non-participation in school is related to poverty...1/3 of working children obtain no benefit from their employer " Child labour among pupils frequently impairs schooling"

PSYCHOLOGICAL
ABUSE.
The production of psychological and social defects in the growth of a child as a result of behaviour such as loud yelling, coarse and rude attitude, inattention, harsh criticism and denigration of the child's personality., for example name-calling, ridicule, degradation, destruction of personal belongings, torture or killing of a pet, excessive demands withholding communication, excessive criticism, and routine labeling or humiliation.
Victims of emotional abuse may react by distancing themselves from the abuser, internalizing the abusive words, or fighting back by insulting the abuser., it also result into abnormal or disrupted attachment development, a tendency for victims to blame themselves (self-blame) for the abuse, learned helplessness, and overly passive behaviours.
Let avoid yelling to our child, no matter what the offense are..." it takes a words to change a bad mind than twelve set of cane" beating a child, maltreating a child, harsh criticism and torturing a child., does not makes a bad child turn good , bt it takes a motherly sympathetic words of life to change bad child to good.
many home maltreat children in their cares just because they are not his/her real parent, which is bad and can't be accepted.
The fact of inattention is the most important issue on child abuse., this has change the society into life coffin., many home give birth to children out of wedlock, while some home give birth to children without family planing, which later result to inattention to the well being of the child/children.
despite the fact that "fingers are not equal"., pay attentions to our children upbringings for them to become tomorrow leaders.
child humiliation is bad, and can't be sweep under the carpet., this affect the proper reasoning of a child., this enormously occur when a child is handed to a guardian due to family problem, parent lost , poverty, after the betrothing of a child to a man ..etc. "Say No To Child Abuse".

Children who are the victims are also at an increase risk of sexually transmitted infections due to their immature immune systems and a high potential for mucosal tears during forced sexual contact. sexual victimization at a young age has been correlated with several risk factors for contracting HIV.
