PRESS STATEMENT
The Board and Management of the Initiative for Mental Healthcare and Advocacy in Nigeria (mhCAIN) commiserates with the traders of Monday Market Maiduguri and indeed all the people and the government of Borno State on the unfortunate inferno that engulfed the popular market on Sunday 26th February 2023.
We sympathise with all that were affected and pray that God Almighty will give us all the strength to overcome this trial.
While urging all businessmen and women of market, and indeed all citizens to remain steadfast in faith and prayers, we wish to reiterate our resolve that our organization is willing to partner with all stakeholders including the State Government, humanitarian organizations and the trader’s associations to offer short and long-term specialized psychosocial support service to victims.

Finally, Nigeria joins committee of Nations with modern Mental Health Laws and Lagislation.

President Muhammad Buhari signs the Mental Health Bill into Law.

The law repeals the obsolete Lunacy Act of 1958.

Initiative for Mental Health Care and Advocacy in Nigeria (mhCAIN) congratulates all Nigerians on this milestone achievement in the annals of Mental Health Legislation.

We thank the President, the National Assembly and indeed all stakeholders who ensured this becomes a reality.

Having the law is one thing, implementation is another thing entirely! We therefore call on all relevant stakeholders to hasten the commencement of the full implementation of the law.
